Oh. Hell. Yeah.

  • Now, for all of us who get nostalgic at the mention of the Black Knight, Return To Dark Castle is almost ready for prime time after being announced 7 years ago.

TUAW.

And, for the old skoolers, YouTube of the original.

Yay! I'm a Mac User!

I received my MacBook Pro 15" yesterday. And I had fun playing with it. BUT... I already have my first problem. It is a software problem, so I'm not saying it is Mac's fault, but still I thought you tech-savvy Mac-user types might be able to help a girl out. So I downloaded the free trial of Illustrator from the Adobe site and I can't get it to install. The first time I tried to install, Safari was open and I got an error message saying that I needed to close Safari and retry installation. I closed Safari, but it still tells me to close Safari and won't proceed with installation. I've even restarted the computer and tried without ever opening Safari, and still that damn error message. What would you do? Assume it costs somewhere above $30 to get an Adobe person on the phone.* Would you delete the download and re-download? The file is huge, so it took about 30 minutes to download the first time. I'm at a loss.

*It seems to me that they should offer free help on the front end "I can't get your software loaded" sorts of issues so they can suck you in with the coolness of the software once it is actually working on your machine, but what do I know about offering customer service on software?

Adobe's installer programs often suck. Here are a few things I'd try.

1) Does the trial come with an "uninstaller? Run that.

2) Repair permissions on your computer (Applications-->Disk Utility-->Repair Permissions). Then Restart.

Also check to make sure you don't have any internet programs running. Although I doubt it, it's possible that the safari error is coming from, say, Mail or iChat

Wait a few months. Adobe has had a hard time making its programs compatible with Leopard.

Cool trick

Take two macs running leopard.

Use screensharing on the first to look at the second

Use screensharing on the second to look at the first but look at the first's screen share of the second.

Is it like the land o' lakes box?

Screensharing is balls -- no need to go to your computer, just pick up the nearest one.

Dammit. I wanted a new mini for the living room to use as an iTunes video server.

This is the second time Steve Jobs has disappointed me this week.

2. Although if you were reading the macrumors live blog, then you might have had one of the disappointments alleviated.

Yes that first one is a doozy. Obviously hacked but all anyone cares about anyway.

Anyone here

tempted to get one of these: http://a248.e.akamai.net/7/248/2041/...t-front-17.jpg

I mean, I really don't need another notebook but the thought of being able to watch 8 hours of porn uninterrupted is quite titillating.

Prices are pretty much the same everywhere. Amazon may be the best because it's no tax and free shipping.

Can you get a government/education/employer discount?

Cool. Amazon wouldn't work on taxes (its where I am), but Macconnect or jandr would and that saves 9%.

And yes, in my role as an educator person, I get that discount, apparently.
