What are you talking about? Selling off bad debt is part of a lender's business, but the riskier the debt sold, the less made. And often, they are selling off bad debt at a loss. You act like they're saying, "Hey, it's no sweat. We'll just sell off our risky debt."

(Just call me willy wonka, wonking it up.)

(I probably should have just PM'ed this to balt, but if others know, feel free to respond).
The average FICO is 700. A score of 750-850 is an A credit; 700-749 is usually a B credit; 650-699 is C; and anything under a 650 is usually subprime. At least that's what I read recently on some website. I don't recall what site or I'd linky.

LOS ANGELES – Courtney Love has been ordered to appear in court later this month to face an allegation that she violated her probation in an assault case by being under the influence of a controlled substance.

Superior Court Judge Rand S. Rubin issued a bench warrant for Love's arrest, but agreed to hold it pending the Aug. 19 hearing. During that hearing, a date will be set for another hearing to decide whether Love, 41, violated probation.

Rubin also said he wanted a report from Love's drug counselor.

So dna testing shows 4-10% of the kids being raised as some man's kids really aren't. I did a rough survey of the kids for the 25 more frequently posting males (excluding nfh) and, if everyone is telling the truth, 11 of them were raising the kids of some other poster. So once again we spike well above the average.

Up to one in 25 dads could unknowingly be raising another man's child, UK health researchers estimate.
Increasing use of genetic testing for medical and legal reasons means more couples are discovering the biological proof of who fathered the child.

The Liverpool John Moores University team reached its estimate based on research findings published between 1950 and 2004.

Credit scoring has way, way more to do with whether you've ever made even one late payment, even on a $21 credit card bill. The debt to income ratio is another thing that they take into account, but a credit report doesn't care about your income. It cares whether you pay your debts on time.

ETA I don't think you had that "old days are over" part in your post when I wrote this, and I don't think that they are necessarily over. It depends to some extent how recent the nonpayment is, but they still fuck you if you have recent late payments. Possibly it just results in you paying an extra percentage or so on your mortgage or car loan or whatever.
This is what goes into a credit score:

1. Were you ever more than 60 days late paying something? If so, how many times.

2. How much of your available credit are you using? If it's less than 20% you are great. If it's more than 80% you suck.

What area of Austin should I stay in? Why isn't Zilker Park on any maps and where can I find a map of Austin with it on there? Do I need to rent a car to get around or will we be ok with shuttles/cabs from airport to hotel and hotel to Zilker Park, with some walking if necessary? Even though it's Austin, it's still Texas, so is it an incredibly bad idea to smoke some joints?

Your legal news update

NEW YORK (AP) -- A civil court judge ruled Wednesday that the landmark punk club CBGB's can't be evicted from its Bowery location, saying it shouldn't be punished for not noticing it owed its landlord money. The ruling was a victory for the club where groups like the Ramones and Blondie defined the punk scene in the 1970s, but CBGB's future is still uncertain.

The dispute involved about $100,000 in rent increases, interest and fees. The club says the increases went unpaid for four years because of a bookkeeping mix-up. CBGB's said it wasn't billed for the increases, but Rosenblatt said the increases were clearly stated in the lease. CBGB's rent is $19,000 a month.

In her ruling, Judge Joan Kenney praised the club's impact on the neighborhood, which she said was plagued by "destitution, degradation and substance abuse" when the club opened in 1973.

Does that mean it's different now?

Downtown, or as close as you can get at this late date. I usually stay here: http://austin.hyatt.com/property/index.jhtml or here:
http://www.radisson.com/hoteldirecto...08110508120510
but I'm sure those are booked by now (they are one the same street as the park - long walking distance in case cabs are hard to come by). This year Mr Man and I are staying at the Intercontinental downtown.

Quote:

Zilker Park is right across the river (they may call it a lake) from downtown. I don't know why the maps you have wouldn't have it. It is a big park.

Cabs and walking work out fine. Better even. There are shuttles and only shuttles and cabs are allowed into the park during ACL. Having a car would be a total PITA.

Q: In your "Midseason Form" column, you write about how your wife hates Mariah Carey and that most women do. Try this: Tell your wife that you find Jennifer Love Hewitt attractive and you enjoy her acting. You may even be able to squeeze a whole column out of her reaction and the pure bile that women spit when hearing her name. Ask any sisters, sisters-in-law, other female friends; they all hate her universally, and it is unexplainable.

SG: Just for the record, I tried this with the Sports Gal this week ... she reacted like George Brett in the Pine Tar Game. Highest of high comedy. Somebody needs to film the pilot, "Everybody Hates Jennifer."

From what I've heard, all the centrally located hotels are booked. You're welcome to stay with me, but I think all the beds are spoken for. You may be more comfortable trying to arrange a MFM with ncs and Mr. Man, who usually stay at the Hyatt.

I don't know why you can't find Zilker park on a map, but it's a big park just south of the river and south of downtown. The address is 2100 Barton Springs.

There is no parking at the festival, but an illustrious former poster lives near Zilker Park and has offered parking. There are shuttles from downtown that are convenient. I'll probably just cab it to avoid having to maintain sobriety.

People light up all over the place at ACL and I've never seen anybody being hassled for it. The cops seems genuinely interested in just maintaining the peace. That said, don't be stupid about it. They do perform a search upon entry, but it is quite cursory, and I have it on good authority that a certain poster was able to smuggle in a couple of pounds of BBQ from the famous Giddings Meat Market with little problem.

I would think that the most reaction Jennifer Love Hewitt would inspire among most women is indifference. I don't know anyone who hates her. Although I can't remember ever discussing the subject.

The problem is the "and". I don't think that there is an argument that she is attractive, subject to subjective qualifications, but her acting sucks. Tying the one to the other corrupts the results.

Mr Man hearts JLH. I don't think he finds her acting to be inspiring, however. I have no strong feelings about the woman. Other than those are some large natural breasts for such a small frame. And she annoyed me towards the end of Party of Five (but maybe her character was supposed to irritate me? if so, that was some fine acting!).

He also hearts Mira Sorvino and Sandra Bullock. I think his tastes are maybe a bit unconventional (he's all about the-girl-next-door thing), but then so are mine, I guess. Paul Rudd (until I found out he's a shorty, sigh), George Clooney and Vince Vaughn (when not porked out) are really the only Hollywood types who do anything for me.

Right. I have visceral dislike for Julia Roberts (not so much in her movies, but if I see an interview with her, I would switch it). I don't really know why. Don't know if she rises to bile-spitting though - I am having a hard time thinking of anyone who would make me spit bile - I guess there are some smarmy news anchors and Katie Couric that bug the hell out of me.
