Somewhere, William Safire is crying.

Look, you can't say I stole jack shit from anyone unless I took something they had. She didn't have my vote. Nor did Trump. And I'm tired of hearing from my friends on the Left and the Right that I stole something from them. (Yes, Trump nuts pull a reverse classist argument out of their asses when I tell them I could not vote for their guy. "Oh. too good for us. But you mind mind the tax increase avoidance us Trump voters gave you!")

You can disagree with my decision all you like, but telling me I stole something assumes a right to my vote. That's seriously offensive.

ncs posted about how you voted (she used the word "voting," which is accurate), and I called it a choice. You're the one who keeps reframing it here -- an obligation, or stealing. If you have a beef with someone calling your vote those things, don't call your vote those things.

Now that's highly unlikely. There are almost no coal miners left in WV.

I knew William Safire. William Safire's kid was a friend of a friend of mine. And you, sir, are no William Safire.

Really? Steal? The charge is you're a feckless moron who put yourself and us in danger with your feckless moronity. William Safire would agree, no matter how much linguistic gaslighting with which you try to engage in gymnastics.

I've had drinks with the man.* Same event I had them with many Rs I'm sure you detest. The place was like a powerful R insider orgy. I was a tag along, friend of friend invite.

Let's not do the Rolodex thing. I'm sure there are folks here who can go way deeper than us. (Alternatively, we're both losers posting on a lawyers' chat board. So really... Whoever we know, who gives a fuck?)

Who's making the semantic argument now?

You're correct. I used the term first. But NB bit on it, and so the debate went... And let's put your parsing aside for a moment. You know damn well, as Hank stated, the argument is and has been, folks like me cost Hillary the election. Call it theft, choice, whatever you like... Depending on who you are, the argument is somewhere on a continuum between:

I didn't do what I should have done, and
I didn't give a candidate a vote to which she was entitled.

NB at least had the balls to tell me what I suspect many think: I shirked an obligation. I don't agree. But I credit his overtness.

Bank regs will be better under Trump.

Market's up. Clearly I'm not alone in seeing some silver linings.
