2. 2. 2. It is great bottle and an even better bargain. $24 at the local package store for what I'd classify as a $50 bottle.
There's also a Chandon Napa for $22 that's really good.

Certainly Roederer Estates has a fine ancenstry but what's wrong with what the french call "champagne"? I had some Louis Roederer 02 last week, and understand why 02 is being hailed as the vintage of the century, so far. In a moment of prescience, back on September 18th I cashed out some investments in funds tied to the Dow and put the money into champagne so that I could drink well while the world went to hell, and, the investment is paying off, instead of being down five figures I am knee deep in French bubbly. At least a bottle a night, two on Saturdays.
Other recs:
Camille Saves, 02 in the magnums
Pierre Peters 99
Larmandier bernier blancs de blanc and 99.
Tonight though, in honour of the release of the Nouveau I am pouring some real Beaujolais. The Gamay grape is a honourable sort and needs to be recognized for more than the glorified grape juice of the Nouveau release. Instead some Fleurie from Pierre-Marie Chermette. Smashing!
Cheers,
P
