That board is nothing compared with the reality of politics. On any given night in any major city you have adults from all walks of life and politic stripes screaming at local officials in city council and assorted city board meetings. In seattle where everyone is left of the center of the democratic party I can't count the number of city council meetings I have been at where people call the city council members facists and nazis. Maybe you all live in nicey-nice land, but I have never seen it, from the Northeast, to DC to the midwest to the west coast. The DU is a more bareknuckle board than our PB and they are all on the same side. Except for Hank's socks. And mine.
I don't think that the FB Community wants to hear me argue with you about the Politics board. The short version of my answer is that I'm tired of hearing the same thing in response to any post, and of seeing photoshopped carricatures take the place of rational discussion.

2. not bob actually attacked ty@50 for simply telling history from the future. Ty@50 has now predicted I won't be here to see the future, which breaks my heart, but it is short sighted to attack Ty@50 for knowing stuff we don't. If now Ty would learn the lesson of learning from the more knowledgable, you wouldn't have to post so much on PB.

Well, then, why do you care what I think?

We've already discussed the photoshoppe issue -- I don't like the ones of Bush or Cheney or whoever, either. But that's not really relevant, because there ain't nobody posting them on the LT Politics board. And I can't remember the last time someone repeatedly responded to a series of posts with "Bush Lied!"

edited to note that this probably should have been a PM to penske.

I'm reaching that point. The wife wants kids, and I'd like to see them. I'd also like to get back my personality, and travel.

I'm seriously considering packing up the plantation and moving somewhere I'd rather not live, but would have a great (read: easy) job, and not worry about money. I'm tired of being beholden to others. I don't want to be anyone's employee or fucking partner anymore.

I'm also learning the hardest truth - in this shithole city I've chosen, unless you grew up here, its next to impossible to get good business here (and even then, its all shit because there's no fucking money in this rust belt asshole of the universe). I realize now why my father called me an idiot and second-rater for coming here instead of working in NYC (in a non-law job).

Its too bad PA didn't flood instead. Those folks in NO look like decent people who didn't deserve it... Here, it'd be like that righteous rain "washing away the scum" the Clash sang about... A state full of degenerate union scum, corrupt shiftless professional politicians, professional litigants and general backward curs... all trying to suckle of the state teat in one fashion or another... destroying the margins out of any industry that gets near the place...

The immediate and unrelenting assertions of primary responsibility for the mistakes in NO to the Feds are the equivalent of the Bush Lied harangue. And that harangue goes on all the time from posters over there, whether its in two word form or complete sentences or paragraphs. I asked a question about the localities responsibility and the consistent answer I got was "maybe, sort of, I need more info, there might be some responsibility but FEMA FEMA FEMA". Progressively I posted more evidence of the localities complicity and the answer was the same, a qualified non-answer. That is why I kept asking the question.

As for pictorial satires, that goes on everyday in the real world too. Did you see the ads NARAL had to pull related to Roberts as too offensive (and bullshit)?? The Swift Boat stuff was the same. And its not lunatics that come up with this stuff. Its highly paid media consultants. But the message is no different than the photoshoppe satires. So its okay to use graphic representations in the real world, but your sensibilities are so fragile that if you see them on a Poilitics Board you get wounded? Cindy Sheehan's group can burn Bush in effigee but a satirical picture of her is out of bounds? And while it may be offensive, political dialogue is. Did you write your congress people complaining when Harry Reid stood before a group of high school students and called the president a "loser"? Did you write them when Senator Landrieu threatened to punch the President (in violation of a fed stat)? That's offensive and its equally offensive from the other side (eg when Dan Burton called Clinton a scumbag), but I doubt if as a citisen you took any stand, however a photoshoppe of Hillary, now that's troubling.

In 25 years of being around politics I have scarcely seen a political dialogue that was any different but for short periods of time. Politics is passionate subject because any discussion involves real or hyopthesised affects on the rights of the people discussing. It should be passionate. I get offended when people propose things that diminish my rights. If I only discussed politics with someone who was for a flat tax then it would be a short and not-so passionate conversation. Maybe if more people acted like the people who go to city council meetings and scream, the voter turnout in the US would be less anemic. And then we would have real representative democracy. For better or worse. But when people don't care enough to be passionate, you get what we have now, which I don't think you are so crazy about, so much.

In the absence of any guiding sign, one way or the other, is left on red universally legal in the United States if one is turning onto a one way street where traffic flows right to left or is it a jurisdiction by jurisdiction rule?

This is crap and you know it is crap. Poltics in this country is just like any other sport. People pick a side and then will go through horrible mental contortions to rationalize and justify all actions engaged in by their side while at the same time excorciating all actions, no matter how innocuous or well-intentioned, by the other side. It becomes a win-at-any-cost scenario with all the rationality and concern about "rights of the people" as you will find in a FB discussion about whether the Yankees or Red Sox are a more worthy team. The FB is sort of the lowest common denominator of this effect. Even if a debate has its origins in a passionate discussion of the real or hyopthesised effects on the rights of the people, it quickly devolves into an orgy of buffoonery and vitriol. The politics board is a cess pool and, even worse, it is boring. But, in those respects, it at least is an accurate representation of politics as a whole in this country.

So, the boys (and I mean boys) who sit on my desk are all in agreement that today I look like a catholic schoolgirl (one dude said it, and then all the others voiced their agreement).

I have to disagree. First of all, I'm not wearing a crucifix. Secondly, I'm wearing a sweater-vest thingy with stripes and a white shirt underneath, and a longish blue skirt with front and back slits (and very fetching little pockets with purple trim).

Catholics of the FB, I ask you, is that a particularly catholic -- or Catholic -- look?

I mentioned that I meant to wear a blue shirt, but it was in the laundry, and one usually quiet guy said (a little too loudly), "It wouldn't have made a difference." (strange -- I wouldn't have thought sartorial matters registered with him -- but he actually went to Catholic school, so I guess I have to believe him)
