Oh, um . . . well, I think it is pretty interesting and musicy and stuff.

ALRIGHT, I HAVE NEVER EVEN HEARD OF THE FUCKING ZUTONS. Do I seem like the type of person who can afford to spend countless hours reading NME and online music zines?

Don't answer that.

You're more of a Triumph guy, eh?*

* That, PLF, is a pretty nice reference - and no googling.

You don't know the Zutons? And you have the nerve to be disrespecting me?

If I don't know you and you're not around, I will shower you with compliments. Halle is hot. See?

By the way, I have a thing for Gabrielle Union. A small thing (ha!). But it's swelling.

Wow. I'm a sucker for great big almond-shaped eyes. Plus, I like her titties.

Sure, but just the Spitfire. The TR-7 was for tools. My blow-and-strippers-loving boss had one, of course.

I totally did. Rik and Geoff Tate have the greatest rock voices ever.

My husband says "you're so [fill in random complimentary thing here]" as filler for lulls in conversation, and, to be honest, it sort of gets on my nerves. It's as though he can't think of anything else to say, so he'll just say "you're hot!", which, while lovely, when he says it LITERALLY in every single, solitary conversation, I kind of get sick of it.

OK, maybe I'm just weird.
You're so hot.

Coltrane confided to me that he is more of a Dan Hill guy.

she's got the magic power of the music in [I forget the correct pronoun - she? me?] fuck

eta I would have been much more impressed if you pulled Trooper out of your hat. Or Chilliwack. or Helix.

I have no set rules. Whether she is wearing something new and it looks nice on her I might say it. I most likely won't. Not because I'm holding back, but because that's the way I am. (Maybe holding back is the way I am and just don't know it. I guess all my relationships are doomed.)

Obviously there is a huge grey area between extremes. But I can tell you that I've been with women who compliment me too much and it's annoying. I've spoken to women who feel the same way about someone they're with who does the same.

Your relationships are only doomed if you have the poor judgment to get serious with someone who wants and needs to get more compliments than you are comfortable giving. Ditto for me if I had the poor judgment to get serious with someone who waits until they "mean something" and gets annoyed by too frequent compliments.

Trailer Park Boys

Speaking of Helix, I have got to recommend Trailer Park Boys. I literally laugh my ass off during that show. (It's true, I have no ass). Maybe I just miss Canadian humor or something, but I think it has mass appeal. You ought to give it a try if you haven't seen it.

(crossing fingers that this is a trifecta)

(and then again, you probably shouldn't listen to my recommendations because I laugh at anything lowbrow)
