I hate Tom Cruise.

Holmes says...“I'm so happy. I mean I … I'm thrilled,” she said. “I'm so in love with Tom and that's all that I care about. He's just the most amazing man in the whole world.”

I am the luckiest woman in the whole world. That’s how I feel. When I saw him I was, like, ‘Tom, where’s the door?’ Oh, God, you know? I was excited, sure. I’m going to come. When Tom calls for me, I’m coming.”
THis is hte most reCOCKulous publicity stunt ever. It completley confirms his gayness. Please make it go away. And what happened to her tits?

Untold amounts of money and really cute, but personality of a wackadoo. Yeah, that's a tradeoff I'm going to make. I don't particularly respect people who are in a serious relationship with someone almost exclusively because that someone looks hot and/or has a lot of money. Those seem to be the reasons you think someone would be in a serious relationship with Tom. You are only reinforcing my feelings.

I guess I can see someone dating him for professional gain -- using him for his contacts. That seems sleazy, too.

ETA I think Katie Holmes is probably over being star struck. If she isn't, there's another reason not to really think she's great.

People would fall over themselves to spend a few minutes with Pauly Shore. That doesn't make the Weasel sexually desirable; it just means that the public is a bunch of star fuckers.

Kidding. Thanks to the satellite radio, I have no CDs in my car changer. Mrs. Not Bob has the new Gwen Stefani CD in hers, and -- as much as it pains me to admit, because I dig Gwen and No Doubt -- if I never hear "Hollaback Girl" again, it will be too soon.

The home changer has Paul Simon's Still Crazy After All These Years, Shawn Colvin's A Few Small Repairs, If You Lived Here You'd Be Home By Now by the Nields, and a Nat King Cole greatest hits type disc.
Which one is Hollaback Girl? Is that the one that steals lines from (of all things) Fiddler On The Roof? Cuz I find that song (the "If I Was A Rich Girl" one) so fucking annoying. Please, NotBob, say you hate that one too.

I remember women thinking Tom Cruise was hot during the Risky Business through Top Gun era. Not much beyond that however. I thought it was the combination of (a) bunches of the same movie with the same boring plot over and over again (aka Top Gun But With Cars; Top Gun But With Pool; Top Gun But With Cocktails) and (b) because Mimi Rogers spilled that he doesn't really like the sex thing* so much. Hard to think of him as a sex symbol after that.

And finally, in my car stereo right now (I'm sure you are all fascinated) - The Pixies, Doolittle. I had Muse, Absolution and then Weezer, whatever the name of the new album is, on rotation until I had to take them into the house for Mr Man's benefit. I haven't bought the new Gorillaz, but I am intrigued. My recollection of the first album was that it was about half good, half unlistenable. I hope they have improved that ratio.

Ironweed, I'm not sure what the "roo woo koo koo" song is, but I now have Bob and Doug McKenzie's Great White North in my head.

Renee is a perfect example of the randomness of celebrity. If you were a beautiful, talented actress who couldn't get a career-making role, wouldn't it just fucking kill you to see her get cast in movie after movie and win awards for it? At least Julia Roberts has (or had) something that can only be nauseatingly described as a "star quality" or "screen presence."

Tom Cruise allegedly talked Ms. Holmes out of playing Edie Sedgwick in Factory Girl. Which would have been her first lead role in a serious (not teen) flick that has cult interest in it. Why? Bc Ms Sedgwick was on a whole lotta drugs and in and out of metnal institutions.
OK, its one thing to be judgmental (this borders on sunnyesque), another to squash a good career opportunity for your so called beloved, but this is just illogical. Sedgwick dies of an OD. Doesnt that sort of support the Scientology perspective?

Oh, and he is not hot. He lost me at the short/hairless/tightywhity dance to Bob Seger. Didn't scream fuck to me. He is no Jeremy Sisto, but his bank account is nice I imagine he would not object to a discreet open marriage.

1. Don't be intentionally stupid. I do not know Tom Cruise or Katie Holmes. Neither do you. If they like each other, all of the things I mentioned are on top of whatever personal chemistry they are supposed to have.

2. Even if they don't have personal chemistry, people are stupid and neither one of them gets an exemption because they are rich, famous or powerful. Therefore, it shouldn't be news that Katie Holmes could be in love with the idea of being with Tom Cruise. That is a level of "star struck" beyond the initial, "Hey, that's Tom Cruise!" level you seem to be recognizing.

3. You can see someone dating for their own gain? I bet that never happens with people who aren't stars.

1. All I said is that I, personally, do not like/respect Katie, the persona or whatever, as much because she is dating Tom Cruise. I don't think I was the one who even said it is just a big publicity stunt.

2. When I find out that a person is stupider than I thought they were, I generally like/respect them a little less. So you are once again backing up my damn theory.

3. I don't particularly like people who date for their own (professional/monetary/status) gain. Whether they are famous or not. Why are you fighting me on this.

4. I give up on this refuckulous non-argument, but mostly only because I have to be out of the office for a couple hours.

Since there is a minor subplot of music, can I alter it slightly? Over the weekend, I watched and enjoyed Ghost World and Donnie Darko, both per recommendations from the board. Any more recommendations?

As for music, I've been listening to the new Garbage and Martha Wainwright quite a bit, particularly the Martha Wainwright. Wilco's YHF and GIB just came back into heavy rotation. This is somehow connected to the arrival of warm weather and outdoor exercise opportunities (at last!).

Wired alerts us about a new, sophisticated set of cameras installed in public areas in Hollywood and used by the LAPD to watch us.

It's underwritten in part by the MPAA, and the story is that they're installed to catch infringers who hawk pirated DVDs. True or not, ncs, I think you should tell Mr. Man to be careful about shakin' it on Sunset, if you know what I mean.
