If you had, you'd remember. It's fast, squirrely and so small as to scare the shit out of you if the person you're riding with really wants to push it.

What do you drive, a Town Car?

The WRX seats four comfortably. None of you fancy lawyers recognize a good thing.

Most of us drive SUV's or haven't you been paying attention.

And as an FYI, husband says that the heated steering wheel option on his new car is the shizznit.

maybe so, but there is a vocal minority that would rather take the bus everyday than drive an suv.

I'm no fan of monster trucks, but I would rather go to work every day than ride the bus every day.

Dissent. Heated windshield wipers, now, those would be the, uh, shizznit.

Edited to add, apparently I'm not the only one with this idea. Damn. Heated wipers

Minority, please. There are some of us who drive the SUV to the commuter train type transportation unit.

wow, quick switch on the avatar there. You threw me for a second.

But, you should invent one. I happen to know some pretty good patent attorneys. Hell, I bet you even know a few.

But think about it. Warm toasty wheel in your frozen little fingers. Apparently, it's the new "must have."

it is still an suv, is it not?

and rp, I'd rather go to a monster truck rally than work right now. work crankiness factor is high.

Only if it's coupled with heated seats for the frozen ass.

On another note, the Detroit Auto Show opens this week, and there's a bunch of new stuff. A fun way to kill a weekend day, if you don't mind dodging a few thousand other gawkers.

Not that I've got the scratch, but this would be a pretty nice ride:

Your attempt to try to make me feel guilty for driving an SUV on my 8 mile round trip commute is falling on deaf ears.

I spend less than $30/month on gas. Back when the commute was 80 mi round trip I chose the 33mpg 3 series. If I still had that commute, no way I'd drive the SportUte.

So stuff it with your high and mighty ridin the bus with the smelly farting people with halitosis attitude will ya.

I was not attempting to make you feel guilty. I simply said that I would not own one. If you think my comment has anything to do with you, maybe it is your own inherent guilt talking. Weird that.

I happen to live in Texas with a lot of people who drive giant SUV's because they think they look cool. Stupid and dangerous in my opinion, but as long as they don't try to cram into a compact car space that I would (rightfully) use, whatever.

Evaluating a car's protection based solely on size and weight is excatly the kind of antiquated thinking that kills Americans in traffic accidents at a much higher rate than similarly developed countries.

I was thinking for a while about buying a WRX, and looked into the size/safety issue. Apparently the frame and chassis are absurdly robust and strong. Something like 2.5 times as stiff as the previous version. Extremely rigid and extremely withstanding to encroachment. It's also got standard side air-bags. Probably because of Subaru's WRC experience. There are all kinds of stories and pictures on the WRX boards involving people (young guys, usually) walking away from horrific accidents that left the car totalled. I think I'd rather be in WRX than an Explorer or smaller SUV, unless it was from BMW, Volvo or Porsche.
