That said, my 135 eats that Cayman's lunch. And I can put a suitcase in the trunk.

And Alex, because I know you like 5th Gear -

I didn't see the 135 until after I bought my 328. Stripped 135 'vert w manual is my dream car.

I saw one of those driving by me this morning (graphite, grey top).

Working theses.

Neither you nor I can name anyone we know who has ever owned a Mitsubishi. Ergo, it is impossible to prove that anyone in America has ever, in fact, owned a Mitsubishi.

Barring paddle shifters, no one has ever used a manumatic feature of their cars in any month other than the first month after their car purchase.

When I get bored, I sometimes use manumatic. When I'm forced to drive on 290 West to visit a client and the traffic is moving at something slower than walking speed and then only in fits and starts, I love my automatic.

Second car (can't find the car board)

I still haven't bought a second car.

Wanted a little more room, and something we can also use for family trips:

Looking to spend under $20k. Some more under than others.

Which to choose:
2005 Saab 9-5
2008 Volvo S-60 demo/rental (certified)
2006 off-lease C class w 4matic (certified)
2008 Subaru Legacy GT Limited (loaner)
2006 Acura TL (off lease Acuras have certified short warranty)

All will have under 30k and be Carfax clean.

Other options are just leasing a Jetta, Passat or Accord.

I'm quite fond of my Jetta tdi. I average 35 mpg and do well over 50 mpg on long highway trips.

My dad has a 2006 TL and he's more in love with it than any car he's had since his 1972 BMW 2002. Of course, he's 64 years old, so his idea of a balance between excitement and practicality may be different from yours.

As for leasing, this seems a poor option unless you're going to at least approach the 15K annual mileage; otherwise you wind up paying for depreciation that never happened. You'll need to be prepared to buy out the car for the depreciated value and resell it in order to recapture your overpayment over the lease term, and the TVM will never be recovered.

Leaning away from leasing for this car, since I am already leasing mine but will do if it's exceptionally cost-effective. But residual values have fallen farther than Randy the Ram, making leasing less attractive.

If you're looking for the car most likely to include a bidet in the driver's position, we're talking about the Toyota Avalon, but only because Buick doesn't have the guts to give the guys at the VFW Hall what they really need.
