I was getting ready for a hockey game recently, and the topic of Hilary Swank came up. One guy pipes up "She was awesome in 'The Core.'"

Ok, how is it possible that a group with our collectivel intelligence, influence and web-fu have not capitalized on the fact that goldenpalace.com will pay large sums of money for stupid stuff on eBay.

CHALLENGE: Think up an eBay auction that will get lots of buzz, such that people will put up joke bids, and goldenpalace.com will win and actually pay us.

Allocation of proceeds (all net of eBay fees):

me: 20% for coming up with the idea and running the eBay auction
person who comes up with the big idea: 40%
lawtalkers: 40%

out of the lawtalkers fund, I think there should be some disbursement for people who actively help to generate buzz - sending the link to large numbers of their email buddies, etc.

What do y'all think?

I think that in the next few weeks you will have neither the time nor the energy for this project.

I think the first thing to put up for bid is a tattoo on Evan's abdomen. Or butt. Or anything.

You can't sell babies in Ebay. Let's just sell one of his kidneys.

is the forum having display problems or am I just at a place with bad connection so that the posts can't always be read? I can't read groups of posts.

I was about to say "whatchoo talking about, that was a great flick," but then I remembered there was a remake.

I do recommend the original, though. Michael Caine, 20x sexier than Jude Law.

Ditto for "The Italian Job". Caine was terrific. Still, the Marky Mark "Italian Job" was better than the Jude Law "Alfie".

Perhaps, but Joel Osteen has 50,000 people each weekend who say you're the sucker (NY Times, register through bugmenot.com)

Quote:

Jeffrey D. Holliman Sr., 38, who said Mr. Osteen makes the Bible "intelligible," added that God had recently steered money his way after the electric company threatened to cut his service. Walter Gonzalez, 28, said that since he started tithing, he had more money left after paying his bills.

Pamela Newman, 62, came to Lakewood five years ago after watching Mr. Osteen on television. That night, she said, she was cured of epilepsy.

That has been scientifically proven to have no effect.

Yes, but Burger just linked to an article that shows that the joke might actually be on the people who believe that "scientific" twaddle.

I passed by the opening ceremonies this weekend.

On the one hand, one can only imagine the amount of sin that has happened in that building, what with all the major concerts and sporting events coming through the Summit (It always has been the Summit, it always will be the Summit) over the previous 35 or so years. I bet the exorcism and clensing ceremonies were interesting.

On the other hand, it seems like a fairly inoccuous, watered down church. No real fire and brimstone from Joel Osteen, and it's a non-demoninational outfit. They really seem to go out of their way to be inclusive of everyone, and I haven't ever heard anything bad about them. It's probably why they're so popular. They're non-offensive to pretty much everyone. It sort of feels more like a self-help organization in the Stuart Smalley sort of way than something affiliated with Charles Dobson.

Since the opening ceremony didn't interfere with my parking at the movie theater next door on Sunday, it didn't bother me much. These are not scary Church people. They're harmless.
