One of the joys of being old is that I needn't worry about what is hip. I can stick to the classics. Martini or Basil Hayden in the winter; gin and tonic or margarita in the summer. Much like khakis and penny loafers, the 40s-60s have much to commend themselves aesthetically.

It's like you're my twin brother or something. Minus all the patent stuff, and with more cooking skill, but less hops.

The fish understands that something quite wrong is happening environmentally, but does not understand that the problem is that it is no longer wet.

Unless it is one of those fish that occasionally leaves the water, and therefore has the basis for comparison between wet and not-wet. But that fish does not really sync with the foundation of thought underlying the above-mentioned phrase in that, for such a fish, being out of the water is just a momentary break, a respite from wetness, iyw.

To add to Jack's argument, I think Colbert's much better positioned than Stewart going forward. Stewart's bits were built around the notion that DC was hopeless.

Though generally speaking that has been, will be and is probably eternally true, at the moment, it's probably not going to be a popular form of humor for the sector of his audience that takes itself, and its politics, a lot more seriously than it ought to.

Colbert's more of a clown and he does a brilliant job of satirizing both the left and right in a fashion that keeps both on edge and wondering whether they're more in on or the butt of the joke, but always feeling like they have to smile and play along.
