I agree. Not to get too warm & fuzzy, but there was some swimmer yesterday that I was impressed with - the guy who came second in the Peirsol race and would have received gold if Peirsol was dq'd. I'm older than you, I think, and the term was used fairly regularly back when I was a younger teen. It had an understood meaning. PP's older than you, too, I think. She used it in a post decrying str8's side habit of reselling tickets, an activity she has dissed many times as an undeserved skimming of money. Back in the days, "mokie" was a (much) ruder form of "Shylock". Her context tells me she knew exactly what it meant.

Maybe. But when you're complaining about some sort of ripping-off, cheating financial behavior, you don't go on a public forum and call the person a kike, even if you're Jewish. Nor do you call someone a nigger as a part of an insult that revolves around behavior associated with some traditional anti-black stereotype, even if you're black.

But, when all is said and done, if no one else even knows what the word means, then no big loss. Hopefully, someday, somebody will get called nigger, and everyone around will just look puzzled. I guess if the power of the word is gone, no foul.

Blacks do it all the time and it is culturally acceptable to them and to whites. Have you actually listened to a rap record before? Along with calling women bitches and ho's, the next most oft used word is nigger. The term is used by blacks both as a term of endearment and as an insult. And blacks don't seem bothered by this. It seems to be a celebrated part of their culture in some bizarre attempt to take ownership of the word.

That won't happen any time soon and blacks have no one to blame but themselves. They give that word the power that it has by making such a big deal out of using the word. There is this idea that they have ownership of the word, but really, it just makes the word a more powerful insult to them. Stupid, but not my problem.
