I think that's a defensible change -- wonder what I could get from a much less defensible claim -- "athletic" body type? S_A_M |

I would think that making a jump to something radically different will require some sort of financial sacrifice at first until you get up to speed and get good at it. And that's the part that scares the crap out of me and keeps me tied to something I don't hate, but certainly don't really love. I think that's why a lot of people jump to legal recruiting or some sort of other sales-related legal support job when they first get out. It's somewhat familiar and there's a built in knowledge base that you can draw on to do well fairly quickly. Moving to opening a book shop or becoming a landscape designer or starting a catering company involves a lot more risk and a much bigger learning curve. |

Happy 3rd of July to all! And no that's not a typo. It is part of my ongoing campaign to have July 3rd declared a new national holiday of Dependence. All those liberal leaches who believe government should provide healthcare, retirement, free cheese, prescription drugs, and all the other nanny-state teat-suckling free-rider handout social programs should celebrate DEPENDENCE on the 3rd while independent free-thinking self-sufficient patriots who are convinced that the federal government is into all kinds of stuff that they shouldn't be, can celebrate the traditional Independence Day on the 4th of July. Than what? Small pox? The bubonic plague? Backroom abortions or getting sent to a convent for life? Being sold as chattel? Child labor? Trenchmouth? |

I do know some investment bankers that have made radical career shifts by starting their own businesses. One started up the Lotte Berk knockoff fitness studio down the street from me, and it is very successful, and she's probably now broken even and is making a pile (they charge a lot). Another one is a professional organizer, now making a pile (also charges the earth). It can be done -- I think you do need some savings and good credit, and a real idea of what your strengths are and what you like to do. |
