I'd see this as a plus, not a minus. This should get you right past the customer service drones and the manager drones and right to someone who knows nothing about the situation and so therefore doesn't know to say no.

I'd be going to the partner working with the client and asking em for advice on solving this little conflict. A phone call to the right buddy in-house, he calls somebody else, somebody mentions that maybe they screwed up FCRA, and the issue is gone. It's not like its a lot of money to the bank.

Play the good old boy (or girl) network. That's what its there for.

Of course, it's your firm. YMMV.

My firm is notoriously risk averse on this sort of stuff. That could be right, but I'm not clear that it is. Also the partner is on vacation, and I doubt it would be good for my career to discuss this crap with him right now. Maybe when he gets back.

I just sent them a letter, along with a copy of the divorce decree. We'll see where it goes from here.

Awwww. I think it's sweet that he's taking care of all the bill paying and stuff since she's busy working all day and he's at home.

Naples

Hey, b_n_b, what's the deal with Naples? Where should I fly into/out of to go there? Is the drive from the Miami airport (or Fort Lauderdale?) to there on a Friday afternoon/evening too bad?

Seems like it is in the middle of nowhere, airport-ily speaking. Am I wrong here?

ETA: of course, if anyone other than b_n_b has helpful answers here, he or she is welcome to chime in. don't be shy.

In fairness, I have heard tell that household management is like a 40% job.

Fly Northwest to Ft. Myers. You'll feel young, 20 years younger than anyone else on the flight.

Not gonna happen. Part of the terms of me agreeing to this trip is that it must put me over the top for American Gold status for next year. Ft Myers is not a direct flight from LAX (shocker, I know). Looks like I might be taking a Friday night red-eye to Ft Lauderdale, returning Sunday evening.

I'm sure Saturday morning breakfast with b_n_b will be Fabulous. I vote for a place that has lobster breakfast tacos and mimosas.

My grandparents used to live in Naples. There is an airport there, but it's about the size of postage stamp and only gets little planes from Miami and Orlando. Ft. Myers is the nearest airport with jets (about 20-30 miles) and probably where you want to aim, although it's generally more expensive to fly into there than Miami or Ft. Lauderdale.

Between Ft. Lauderdale and Miami, no big difference; flying into Tampa is also about the same drive (3 hours). If you can get a single connection flight to Ft. Myers (probably through Dallas, Atlanta or one of the Ohio airports) or Naples (through Miami or Orlando), that's the way I'd go.

American used to have a flight from Dallas to Ft. Myers; they probably still do. Yah, you've got to change planes in DFW, but it's probably worth it. The drive from Miami to Naples is about the most boring drive I've ever done. And I've driven across Texas on I-10.
