i'd ask whether the avatar represents a self-portrait or your self image, mr. violins but that seems more of a mr. spookyfish type of thing to do.

so i won't do it :P

ask and you shall receive. :D Sorry, I've been away. I did a little time for paying for a hooker with a check, which subsequently bounced (the check, not the hooker) ;)

Sure, he's being serious. I think his chances are somewhat less than a snowball in hell, though. I think the dems are in trouble in Ohio, sad to say, and Springer brings name recognition -- not that that is a good thing in this case. I've heard Springer talk of things political and he has some interesting things to say, but I think most people won't be able to get past the "image" associated with his show.

The problem with the dems in Ohio is that they have too few up and comers within the party who have the kind of name recognition that will play in, say, New Rome rather than Cleveland or Y-town. This, coupled with the stranglehold the republicans have on all of the statewide offices right now doesn't bode well for the near term. So yes, in short, this would be grasping at straws. However, I don't know how strongly the democratic party is courting Springer. From what I've heard, it's more the other way around, though feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

its hard to say. i would have never thought that jesse ventura would have a chance in minnesota. however, a springer candidacy would be a lightning rod for out of state republican money - mainly due to the image of his show. once you get past the show image he seems like a strong candidate - former mayor of cincinatti so experienced and connected in politics, out of politics long enough to be able to run as an outsider, probably close to 100% name recognition, is personally wealthy, has a southern ohio base, and he sounds pretty intelligent and reasonable about things. if he can get past the image of the show, which he probably can't, he could pull the upset.

Springer launching campaign committee

Jerry Springer plans to set up an official campaign committee today for a U.S. Senate bid and launch an unconventional media blitz intended to shake up the Washington establishment.

Though Springer has not declared his candidacy, these moves are the clearest sign yet that the former Cincinnati mayor wants to re-en ter politics.

Well, I guess the question is what is a viable candidate? The only other name that I have heard raised as a possibility for the democrats is Eric Fingerhut. Outside of Cleveland, I don't know how many people know who he is. Springer's got name recognition. He's bright, and can identify issues [need jobs, health care, better Cincinnati football team, etc.] Can he win? Good question. Don't really think so, but again, don't know of any other democratic candidate that stands any better chance.

but if you use likelihood of election as the definition of viability springer would certainally be a more viable candidate for the senate that kuninich (or however you spell is name) is for president.

That's true. I don't think Dennis the Menace has any real chance/viability for the nomination. Other than making the Nader crowd happy, he's not a serious contender.

i'm hoping that he gets enough support to remind the democrats that they get elected by being more liberal than the republicans rather than being mushy moderates. i mean, clinton only got elected because the perot split off a lot of the moderate conservatives and buchanan pushed george the first too far to the right. the democrats shouldn't forget that the only reason why the bushies were able to steal the 2000 election is due to the democrats taking the left for granted.

i had better stop now before this turns into the politics bored and the idiot republican socks take over.

When is the OH S. Ct. not the S. Ct?

No, the answer is not when they are faced with the school funding issue. Instead its when they must consider a writ filed by new Justice O'Conner.

"The Supreme Court of Ohio has voted 6-0, with Justice Maureen O'Connor not participating or present, to appoint seven senior judges of the Ohio Court of Appeals to sit in place of the seven current Justices for purposes of considering a petition filed in the Supreme Court by Justice O'Connor."

something about the ohio supreme court

come on, mr. violins, if we are going to stay ahead of the texas and dc boards in number of posts you have to do better than this for topics. i mean other than seeing this as more proof that the entire idea of electing judges is idotic, i can't see what sort of discussion can be raised by this. i just don't see this as the type of post that will generate lots of discussion.
