My common-law spouse in Canada sued me for the equivalent of spousal support when we broke up. I was 21, a bartender, and he was in his 30s and an unemployed musician. Needless to say, he withdrew the claim.* I have no problem with having someone prove they need it before they get anything.

*The thing is, he might have been successful, which is what sucks the most. But I humiliated him enough to inspire him to withdraw it.

I've bought a half dozen CDs from recomendations on these boards. 1.5 were good.

Pandora is the way to go. I found my absolute fave there. plus it's free to eliminate dozens of things you don't like.

Isn't that basically the gay marriage position? I don't think there is anything magical about the label "marriage" as long as all couples get the same level of legal recognition from the government, and there isn't a distinction between who qualifies for what.

restaurant q.

are most Arab/middle eastern restaurants in your cities "wet", do they have liquor?

here not so much. maybe 1 in 10 have liquor license, which is unusally low for ethnic food. I always thought it some local anomoly. Example: of the 20 Thai restaurants here NONE have beer/wine or liquor. OTOH, when I lived in NoVa I think almost every Thai restaurant served booze.

So i just assumed that no middle eastern places had licenses because, just like local Thai places, they don't have to because the comp doesn't either.

Then, at lunch today, I got hit with the theory that it was a religious choice (not that such choice would explain the dry-Thai restaurants). So, what is the word in your cities- booze available with your schwarma?

I always assumed that was because in most cities liquor permits cost money and time, and that a lot of ethnic restaurants are opened by people just hoping to make a living. One chinese place near me opened without a license (BYO okay), got popular, and got a license once business started booming.

Thanks - I usually use lastfm, will have to try pandora. In other news, iTunes' suggestions really suck.

My classics tend to be John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Leadbelly, BB King, etc. - some SRV in there but not a lot. The last couple decades are direly underrepresented. Will try some of these. Thanks to Fugee and RT, too.

Listen to "A Ass Pocket of Whiskey" by R.L. Burnside. Not a classic and possibly not even good, and if you hate John Spencer I understand, but his version of "Boogie Chillen" has that ineffable . . . something.

On the other hand, I can discuss religion cooly and logically because I think my belief is based on rational factors.

Cheating on you I understand. Cheating in general I can't. I thought you were speaking about the act generally. My bad.

Burnside's the shit, and if you dig Burnside, you'll probably like the Black Keys' old stuff. Gritty garage blues.

Incoming classes. (And I'll try not to comment on Coach K's recruits.)

Looks like Nova did well for themselves.

But Hank, where's State? You would think they could have added a big man.

Nothing beats the idea of using Pandora for a week, but for big contemporary blues I also recommend the Alligator Records anniversary collections. I've owned the 20th Anniversary Collection since college and love it still. The last track sucks but everything else is strong. I still tear up to "300 Pounds of Heavenly Joy" because it reminds me of Hank's baby sister.
