Anything is possible of course. I find it interesting that you are now arguing that life imitates movie plots, but go with it if it works for you.

I have never heard any Woman say that she initially disliked or was ambivalent towards her now heartthrob, but I might not get around the way you do. For me and all of my friends, it is pretty much yes or no within 15 minutes of meeting someone. As mentioned before, by bad behavior or personality, a yes may become a no, but I've never seen the reverse occur.

You want to be with Woman who might "play hard to get"? You a Rules guy?

I think Spanky has a valid point. Movies are written by screenwriters and many screenwriters, as many writers in general, come up with their stories basedon real life experiences. Even if its fictional, there is still a huge nonfictional component to the genesis of the celluloid tale.

As is often the case with Spanky's posts, there is a kernel of truth in there, under the layers. It is true that "Every man, with half a brain, has heard the story: We were friends for many years, I was never interested in him in "that" way, but then one day he (insert random thing) and I saw him completely differently and now we are in love."

But what Spanky is (perhaps unconsciously) omitting is that the "insert random thing" isn't "parted his hair on the left" or "gave me a book of poetry" or "showed up unannounced at my work" but rather tends to be "broke up with his girlfriend" or "got divorced" or "finally got off his lazy ass and scored a decent job." In other words, the attraction was always there, but there was some impediment (romantic or at least social) that is suddenly lifted.

I agree with you on the unavailable/now available thing, but I don't really think that is what he is saying.

I would even cop to the sexual tension that is mistaken for dislike thing on really really rare occasion (the You've Got Mail plot).

I'm disputing his idea that mere persistance with a woman who is seemingly uninterested will win the woman over to liking him. Never seen that happen. And the only people I can imagine that working on are people with low self esteem who are unused to getting any attention at all. I don't even think I've seen that in a movie plot. God what a tedious movie that would be.



ETA: Put another way, Jenny will never love Forrest Gump romantically. And from what I can tell, Spanky's life is like a box of chocolates.

Good point. I think it can work this way with people you are forced to interact with by happenstance (work, school, lives in your neighborhood, social membership, group of friends, etc.), but not if the only interaction is multiple failed pickup attempts. The only exception to this is if you later win the lottery and it's publicized.

Put it this way--ever see a gazelle being chased by a lion stop to hang out and get to know the lion?

The Serb is attainable. She is an over the hill model wannabe working at a strip joint and in desperate need of cash and a green card. Seh probalby lives in some basement apartment in the Mssion iwth like ten other over the hill model wannabes and really has no exit strategy. I think, with the proper wooing, Spanky can get her. And I have met Spanky and he is way more of a gentleman in person than this cavalier caveman we are witnessing here.
