For reasons beyond my control, I've been exposed to a fair amount of CNN lately, which is definitely talking about it.

Avoid local tv news like the plague (the figurative one, not the real one that many haven't tried to avoid).

I honestly don't know. I saw a bunch about it on Twitter and in national news, but I don't know if our local affiliates ran anything. I will say that video of the kids in the classroom escaping out of the window when the person trying to get in claiming to be a cop said "bro" was heartbreaking. That was via twitter.

FWIW, our papers are still focused on the Astroworld tragedy and what's going to happen to Carlos Correa. And lots on omicron.

One of my partners lives a mile away (older kids). He has a friend with 2 daughters in the school. One girl was in the hall where he was shooting. Supposedly she was the only person there not shot. I can’t imagine how she will ever recover.

When I heard about the charges against the parents, my first reaction was, that's some unduly aggressive prosecuting, scapegoating in a tragedy. But then I read the story, and the facts about what the parents did before and immediately after the shooting are just damning. They were in the school with him that morning, saw the stuff he was writing and drawing, knew he had a new gun, and ... nothing. The gun was probably in the kid's backpack during that meeting.

The GOP is a suicide bomber. On the cusp of what looks to be an epic rout in its favor in 2022, its Bible Belt trailer-park wing is about to cause the overturn of a law that will destroy it.

No party can survive having alienated the # of voters the GOP will if Roe is overturned.

I was wrong about no one overturning Roe. But I’m comfortable saying that if it is overturned, we’ll effectively be as close to a civil war as possible, and the GOP will never win another Presidency.

I would also like to see stats on the how many kids have been shot per incident per capita, i.e. are the D.C. shooting incidents one victim, whereas the Alabama (or Michigan) incidents are 3 or more? Because that would indicate the effect of gun laws related to the legality of the type of weapon, magazine capacity, etc.
