Huge amounts of a red wine extract seemed to help obese mice eat a high-fat diet and still live a long and healthy life, suggests a new study that some experts are calling “landmark” research.

For years, red wine has been linked to numerous health benefits. But the new study, published online in the journal Nature on Thursday, shows that mammals given ultrahigh doses of the red wine extract resveratrol can get the good effects of cutting calories without having the pain of actually doing it.

“If we’re right about this, it would mean you could have the benefit of restricting calories without having to feel hungry,” Sinclair said. “It’s the Holy Grail of aging research.”

The resveratrol-treated 55 obese mice on a high-calorie diet (one scientist called it a “McDonald’s diet”) are not only about as healthy as normal mice, they are as agile and active on exercise equipment as their lean cousins, showing what can be considered a normal quality of life, higher than usual for obese mice, said study co-author Rafael de Cabo of the National Institute on Aging.

“These fat old mice can perform as well on this skill test as young lean mice,” Sinclair said.

So I suggest McDonalds and wine for lunch.

I like cheese curds. For the non-Midwesterners in the mix, they aren't soft like cottage cheese. I'm not sure how they make them but they are like the consistency of colby cheese but they are separate curds about an inch or so big rather than being mashed together in a block of cheese. It's like snack cheese.

They are also a delicacy at the Minnesota State Fair where they coat them in batter and deep fry them. But then again at the Minnesota State Fair, they batter and deep fry almost anything that doesn't move.

I think, although I could be wrong and have not checked other sources, that milk naturally separates into curds and whey and then, in order to make cheese, some of the whey is added back to the curds and then it is all pressed together into a block and then aged.

That depends. The deep fried ones are pretty tasty as you can imagine for something that is essentially fat and breading, but after a couple it's just too much. The curds are a tasty way to snack on cheese.

I'm with you when people get all judgemental about my food it is all like "Did I ASK for your opinon?" The worst is the ones that wander over if you are eating at your desk and say "WOW THAT SURE SMELLS GOOD WHAT IS IT?" and proceed to stare and invade your personal space. wtf? Haven't you ever hear that is rude?
