But seriously, are you supposed to ignore all pain? Or just some pain?

SMH with shame. Sorry Hank. FWIW I did read the book. Eventually.

Ty@50 has never experienced this heel pain.

What about a physical therapist, if focused on the heel?

If you want more general flexibility (PB x-post), perhaps a personal trainer who can focus more on flexibility than strength and conditioning.

Yes. This. Wondering how to find the right personal trainer.

I just discovered one can ski intermediates out west with a nasty mcl and meniscus tear. No black diamonds again (yet). But all in due time.

I’ve found in some instances just getting back on the horse forces the body to self repair. Brace helps too. Feels like cheating. But then, all short modern skis are kinda cheating.

Bindings are cheating too! Just use rope to attach your feet to a couple of rough hewn planks. And hike up. Earn your turns for godsake.

1) Recs from friends
2) Call around to describe your needs
3) Visit the promising ones; ask the others for suggested alternatives.

Remember skiing on the old long skis? That was hard shit. I can't even imagine taking a pair of old school 200s down a challenging run today.

That kid in a day glo turquoise Nevica ski jacket and Vuarnet shades, listening to Sabbath Volume 4 or Meddle from a Walkman in his jacket might've had more skills than the old man on carving skis today.

Echoes was such a great skiing tune... until it got to that whales-crying-in-the-deep part.

2. "Personal existential anomie manifesting through plantar fasciitis"
3. "She's cute... Wait. I shouldn't think like that."

Oh yeah . . . although at the time it was just called skiing. I didn't ski for a while, during which period the short carvy skis came out, so I never had a timely direct comparison. But I do remember how damn hard it was on anything other than groomers with 200s.

Mezze in Jaffa is extraordinary, including the breakfast shakshuka of which Hank speaks. Arabic cuisine on Israeli budgets. I don't remember where we went, unfortunately, but our local friends filled the belly and it was happy. If given an option, skip Israeli wines and get Palestinian or Lebanese ones, though I think you may have trouble getting the choice if you're in Israel proper.

Report from China and Thailand travels: Thailand was a sad country, filled with extremes of wealth and poverty and an extraordinary number of dissipated obnoxious westerners looking to take advantage. the highlight of the trip was likely a dinner we had in a little pavilion on the river next to the royal villa - the main palace was taken over by the government 50 years ago but this villa and a few others remain in the families' hands. It was right smack in the middle of much of the history of the city, and we got a very detailed set of stories of the last three hundred and fifty years in that spot. Shanghai was extraordinary; I may have an big deal there next year, and I'm going to plot to try to spend more extended time there then.

I used to ski 195s. 178s now. It's like the difference between the tennis rackets McEnroe used in the early '80s and the ones I used in the early '90s.

I had a day glo Nevica ski jacket.

The most challenging thing about skiing today is trying to convince your kids not to bomb down the mountain (or hill here in the middle west).

200s were too hard to manage. I got them because I knew someone who won them in a racing competition. Sold them to me for next to nothing. Difference between those and 190s was night and day.

The essential item I never owned was the Vuarnets with the leather sides in white. It was the only accessory for the multicolored Nevica. Completed the Aggressive Pastels Look.
