"Pull up the People" by M.I.A. - She's got the bombs to make you blow. She's got the beats to make you bang bang bang.
No derision from me. I like M.I.A. despite her (now-passed?) almost painful omnipresence and her questionable politics. At the risk of tainting her music for you, however, I feel obligated to disclose that she was a frequent addition to the spin class play list a few months ago.

I always thought chasing the dragon referred to opium or heroin. Riding the snake is what the Mrs. does if you've done a good job with the dishes and remembered to take out the trash.

The discussion of M.I.A.'s musical talent and politics in the same post has prompted me draft the following rule, which should be applied hearby and henceforth, forevermore and in perpetuity on all internet forums and invoked freely whenever the circumstances so require:

All discussions of musical taste, talent and proclivity shall be considered over upon the mention by any individual participating therein of M.I.A.

This rule is a corollary to Godwin's Law. The intent of the rule is not to suggest that M.I.A. is either bad or good, rather, it is to point out that most musical discussions are ridiculous to begin with since musical tastes are entirely subjective, and while they may start out on a positive note (ba dum bum), the discussions eventually degrade to the point where they become pointless band-name-dropping which serves no purpose other than to stroke the ego of the band-name-dropper or to prompt a post from Str8 declaring his affinity for whatever band is in question based on his having met one of its members for dinner two years ago.

Accordingly, I think the mention of M.I.A. is a good place at which such discussions should end, though I am willing to amend this rule and insert a different band/singer/whatever in place of M.I.A.

eft typo

I have read your rule three times and it makes no fucking sense to me. But I like it. It has a nice absurdist bent to it. Like you are just putting words that you like together in no particular order. In a mellow summer afternoon in the office sort of way, it works.

Flower, you know i hate to take sides against you, but for me, nfh pretty much proved conclusively that there really was no need to listen to foreign music. Who has the time and why talk about it.

  • Ump's language ban incites protest
Little Leaguers told to stop speaking Spanish on field

METHUEN, Mass. (AP) -- Coaches on a Little League team filed a protest with the league after an umpire ordered the players to stop speaking Spanish during a state tournament game this week.

Coaches said the order demoralized the Methuen players and cost the team the game.

"This never should have happened," coach Chris Mosher told the Eagle-Tribune newspaper. "These are 14-year-old kids who should not have to deal with any of this, especially in Little League baseball."

National Little League spokesman Lance Van Auken said there's no rule against players speaking Spanish or any other language on the field. But he said it's too late to reverse the decision or the outcome of the game.

"It appears the umpire was concerned that the coach or manager may have been using a language other than English ... to communicate potentially 'illegal' instructions to his players," Van Auken said in an e-mail to The Associated Press Friday. "The umpire simply overstepped his authority, and there was no malicious intent."

WTF? say if a team had code language instead of hand signals you can talk in code, right? what rule is this?

I guess I should stop complaining that I got chewed out by the ump for yelling out "FUCK" the other day when I got tagged out.
