Merger News

Any update on the Ropes/Fish rumors?

Just heard a rumor about Goodwin and MoFo, any truth to this?

Is there anybody left at Testa?

Ropes & Gray to buy Fish & Neave Finally public. No news on whether or not they will meet the Wilmer Hale salaries.

Any news on Goodwin?

How long does the Fish and Neave IP group remain named that? 6 months? 1 year?

I'd guess 1 day, except within the group, which will keep it a year before the marketing materials are changed to say "R&G's IP experience benefits from the extensive group of lawyers formerly with Fish and Neave"

Fish & Neave is a good brand. My guess is they hold onto it until the value gets transferred to the Ropes & Gray name.

It'll be on everything for two to three years, then will begin coming off things a little bit at a time. The cycle they need to go through is a cycle where they drive home the association of the two names at at least two annual meetings of every trade association and every annual publication.

Testa RIP?

According to the other board, the partners have voted to dissolve. There is also this article at the Boston Business Journal

ETA: Apparently their doors are closing on Friday! The magnificant 7 are headed to Bingham.

More than they pay at Testa.

THT - A long, slow, painful death

From today's Boston Herald

Quote:

He insisted that Testa would continue with this year's recruitment schedule. Twenty interns will join the firm over the summer, and at least 20 permanent first-year recruits will join in the Fall, he said.

What they will join remains to be seen. Associates are running an unofficial ``pool'' on when the firm will fold. Testa told the Herald exclusively last week that it was considering a radical downsizing - or ``reconfiguring on a smaller footprint'' - as one of the options being looked at.

All the little birdies are saying dissolution. Everyone over there is actively looking for a job. My firm has been flooded with THT resumes from all levels. According to the Other Board, draft WARN Act notices have been found on THT's system.

I've got to believe there are several firms that would like to merge, provided these folks can keep enough of them together to maintain the critical mass.

Testa was always a place that was more than the sum of its parts - the brand name and collective IP had value. I think they won't do as well if they don't stick together to some degree.

I have no idea what they are going to do, but don't trust the dissolution rumors from infirmation because they're on about their third or fourth go round.

According to the articles, merging with Mintz isn't going to happen. Sources other than the Other Board are hinting at dissolution. We'll see what comes out tomorrow.

ETA: The cab driver I had tonight/this morning said there will be an announcement of dissolution tomorrow morning.

THT RIP

According to a press release on the Testa website,
Quote:

At a meeting held this morning, the partners of Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault, LLP reached a decision to wind up the business of the Firm and, ultimately, to dissolve it.
My cabbie was right. Wonder if it had anything to do with the fact that he was wearing a THT fleece vest.
