We need some relief up here.

I hear that Marilyn Turner, Bill Bonds and John Kelly recently reunited for a broadcast on XYZ. If those icons of a better day in Detroit can come back, eventually the Lions may too. Along with the motor city bagel.

I'll Take Polygamist Hairjobs Anytime

This article - http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081223/...gamist_retreat, or the report it purports to summarize should be prenominated for the errors of the year. It intimates so many errors about the polygamist Mormon Texas nutjobs that I am forced to defend them:

Quote:

A dozen girls were sexually abused at a polygamist group's ranch targeted in a high-profile raid last spring, and parents neglected more than 250 other children living there by doing nothing to protect them from becoming future victims, Texas child welfare officials said in a report released Tuesday.
12 out of 439. No other group of humans yet known to man, and particularly not Catholics, Protestant evangelicals, Muslims, Boy Scouts, etc. have achieved such a remarkable 2.8% level of abuse.

Quote:

The Department of Family and Protective Services concluded there was evidence that 12 girls, ages 12 to 15, were "spiritually" married to adult men in the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, which runs the Yearning For Zion Ranch in Eldorado. Seven of them had one or more children, the report says.
Shit. The abuse of those 12 is not even necessarily physical, it is "spiritual." I won't explain at this time how "spiritual" marriage can be non-sexual in certain Mormon polygamist sects. But only seven had children - in a church devoted to propagation! I see no evidence that these girls were sexually or physically abused - only "spiritually," and every religion does that to children from birth. So, we are down to 7 ot 439, or 1.7%, and there is no recitation of the age of the mothers. In some states, rightly or wrongly, 15 this can be legal and not "abuse."

Quote:

Another 262 children were listed as neglected because the agency said their parents knew there was sexual abuse in the household but did not move to protect their children from possible abuse.
Say what? No further explanation? Are these the siblings of the 12 or something else?

Quote:

"The Yearning for Zion case is about sexual abuse of girls and children who were taught that underage marriages are a way of life. It is about parents who condoned illegal underage marriages and adults who failed to protect young girls — it has never been about religion," the agency said.
To me, finding this so-called abuse in 12 or 439 after months of investigation suggests the opposite. I defy any religion or group to have better numbers. If anything, this case vindicated these people and indicted their persecutors, not the opposite, despite how they want to spin it.

Quote:

The individual investigations, which covered 146 families, concluded that 91 families had children who were abused or neglected. Crimmins said that conclusion confirmed what investigators initially suspected — that girls were being forced into underage marriages and other children were exposed to that harm.
This conflicts with the rest of the story with no explanation.

Quote:

All but 15 of the children's cases have been dropped from court oversight because the agency believes they can be kept safe. One girl has been returned to foster care.
Does the author care to elaborate on these internal contradictions or just be a conduit for noise?

These people are twits and I fear for their offspring, but they have the better of this dispute, despite the article's author's bias. As the lawyer said:

Quote:

"The department has made many allegations that it's never been able to back up, in an effort to justify their barbaric actions," he said. "They need to learn how to say we're sorry instead of trying to justify their actions."
I wish the best of luck to them in their lawsuits, as I do the recent lawsuits against the Vatican for its decades-long coverup, relocation and harboring of cloistered American pederasts, pedophiles, ebedophiles, fatherfuckingophiles, and other-that-iis-not-right-ophiles. The day that criminal conspiracy cloaked in cloth goes the way of the Pinto, the Marlboro Man, and certain asbestos defendants will be a bigger victory for the common man than Greenspan admitting his worldview was proved wrong.

If there is a silver lining here -- and I'm trying hard to find one -- it's that the market for Manny's services is not nearly so rich now, with the Yankees, Red Sox and Angels bowing out.

A Fairy Tale of FB

With apologies to Less and Fugee, of course, and to Shane and Kirsty:

It was Christmas Eve, Fuge
On the FB
And TM said to me
“Won’t see another K”
And then he sang a song
Some hip-hop travesty
I logged off rapidly
And looked at old IMs from you

God, I’m a lucky one
Cashed out in Two Thousand One
I’ve got a feeling
This year’s for me and you
So, happy Christmas
(I found Him at last)
I can see a better time
When all our dreams come true.

We had cars made by Nazis
We had watches of gold
But the cash went right through us
There’s no place for your soul

When you first read my posts
On the old Yahoo board
You promised me
Cravath was waiting for me

You were Skadden
You were Schulte
Queen of their box bitches
When the crew finished sorting
You howled out for more

Paigow was still posting,
On the X , we were dosing
We kissed in Slave’s kitchen
Then raved through the night

The boys of the Greedy New York Board
Were screaming for more pay
And the socks were crying out
For Breasticle Day

You’re a lech
You’re a prude
You’re an old sock on ludes
Lying there almost dead, with no chick in your bed

You’re Penske, You’re Kafka
You cheap lousy socka
Over drinks at the Campbell
You rated my arse

I could have made GP
Well, Sidd did, so big whoopee
You took VSO from me
When I first found you

I kept it with me, Fuge
In my sock drawer, all alone
Can’t make it work, no how
My imaginary life is built around you.

Save a tree, use holiday sweaters to dress a pinata.

One of those guys looks exactly like a guy with whom I grew up, so much so that I went to the website to see if they were one and the same. Turns out that it's just a doppelganger.
