But how would you propose bringing this about? The business leaders I worked for/with were too busy making $$$$($$$$) to be bothered (I say this not as a criticism of them - they are very good at what they do, and make a lot of money for both themselves and shareholders, and that's a good thing). Compulsory public service (worked for the Ancient Greeks, but then so did pederasty)? |

After living in a country your entire life it is so difficult to see such callous indifference on an immense scale. When I reflect on how the mother of the imbecile who is running our country said that the people who are in the Astrodome are happy to be there, it angers me beyond comparison. ......... I wonder why the government made them leave at great expense and uproot families who have been living in their communities for generations. ........... He stayed in the French Quarter and a Ward that weren't even damaged a bit. The VFP took me to the city of Algiers on the West Bank. The part of Algiers we went to was very poor and black. ............... Even though Algiers came through Katrina relatively unscathed, our federal government tried to force (mostly successfully) the people out of the community. ......... The government declared martial law, but there was no effective police presence to enforce it. Malik said the lawlessness was rampant. People were running out of food and water and they were being forced to go to the Superdome. They didn't want to go to the Superdome, because their homes were pretty intact: they wanted to stay and have food and water brought to them. A town of 76,000 people dwindled down to 3,000. The die hards were rewarded last Wednesday when the VFP rolled into town with food and water. ................... The citizens of Algiers desperately needed help and hope before the hurricane. When I think of how many other poor neighborhoods are being decimated and made so desperate and hopeless by the failed policies of the Bush administration, it makes me so angry. ....................... One thing that truly troubled me about my visit to Louisiana was the level of the military presence there. I imagined before that if the military had to be used in a CONUS (Continental US) operations that they would be there to help the citizens: Clothe them, feed them, shelter them, and protect them. But what I saw was a city that is occupied. I saw soldiers walking around in patrols of 7 with their weapons slung on their backs. I wanted to ask one of them what it would take for one of them to shoot me. ..................The vast majority of people who were looting in New Orleans were doing so to feed their families or to get resources to get their families out of there. If I had a store with an inventory of insured belongings, and a tragedy happened, I would fling my doors open and tell everyone to take what they need: it is only stuff. .................When our fellow citizens are told to "shoot to kill" other fellow citizens because they want to stay alive, that is military and governmental fascism gone out of control. ............ If George Bush truly listened to God and read the words of the Christ, Iraq and the devastation in New Orleans would have never happened.................. George Bush needs to stop talking, admit the mistakes of his all around failed administration, pull our troops out of occupied New Orleans and Iraq, and excuse his self from power. " For you liberals that can't seem to spot inconsistency at one point she complains about the lawlessness because of the lack of enforcement, then she defends the looting, and in the next paragraph complains about the fact that there are troops to enforce the law. I especially like the part where if Bush had truely read the words of Christ the tragedy in New Orleans and Iraq would have never happened. |

The real problem is that most of the business leaders that I have met are private people. I don't think it will happen, if at all, until there's a necessity, so perhaps term limits would speed that process along? |

It would be good to see them come back to the fold, especially since we rebuilt them after they supported the Nazis and I am not sure if we have received our full ROI. Of course the liberals will be apopletic to see real leaders back at the helm there. Boni! |

Donna Brazile shows leadership:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...602167_pf.html Donna Brazile just put her head on the chopping block. The wrath she will face form her fellow Dems will be intense. She just took a huge political risk in order to help her hometown. Now hopefully the administration can follow through with a fast and efficient reconstruction plan so her actions where not taken in vain. I hope the old axiom of "no good deed goes unpunished" will not come true. I am a fiscal conservative, but this is not the time and place for it. The time to be fiscally conservative is when the farm bill, the energy bill or other such nonsense comes before Congress. Not when a disaster relief and reconstruciton effort comes before congress. |
