But how would you propose bringing this about? The business leaders I worked for/with were too busy making $$$$($$$$) to be bothered (I say this not as a criticism of them - they are very good at what they do, and make a lot of money for both themselves and shareholders, and that's a good thing).

One thing that truly troubled me about my visit to Louisiana was the level of the military presence there. I imagined before that if the military had to be used in a CONUS (Continental US) operations that they would be there to help the citizens: Clothe them, feed them, shelter them, and protect them. But what I saw was a city that is occupied. I saw soldiers walking around in patrols of 7 with their weapons slung on their backs. For you liberals that can't seem to spot inconsistency at one point she complains about the lawlessness because of the lack of enforcement, then she defends the looting, and in the next paragraph complains about the fact that there are troops to enforce the law.

I especially like the part where if Bush had truely read the words of Christ the tragedy in New Orleans and Iraq would have never happened.

The real problem is that most of the business leaders that I have met are private people. I don't think it will happen, if at all, until there's a necessity, so perhaps term limits would speed that process along?

Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and his conservative challenger both broke with long tradition against campaigning on election eve Saturday, heading to Germany's most populous state to stump for support in what has become a tight national vote.

Amid polls showing some 25 percent of voters still undecided, Schroeder and Angela Merkel were in North Rhine-Westphalia to push their competing visions.

Schroeder touched on all of his major themes in a 20-minute speech to 10,000 people in Recklinghausen, highlighting his opposition to the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq and the development of closer ties with France and Russia as foreign policy triumphs.

Merkel likely would move Germany back closer to the United States, its longtime security partner from the Cold War.

HERDS of mountain donkeys have been helping to bring democracy to some of the remotest areas of Afghanistan.
The democracy donkeys have been co-opted for the task of delivering 40 million ballot papers because they can penetrate mountain passes and muddy valleys beyond the reach of other transport.

More than 400 international observers are in Afghanistan to monitor the elections, and some of them have had to follow the trail of the donkeys to ensure that the precious ballot papers are not lost, stolen or damaged.

The papers themselves were printed in Britain and Austria, then flown to Afghanistan in huge Russian-built Antonov transport aircraft. The contract is being paid for out of a budget of £83 million donated to the election by the EU, Japan and other countries.

Agreed. Kohl was a key junior partner to the Reagan-Thatcher alliance in defeating the RedRooskies. Of course then someone put Kool Aid in the lager and Germany went off the reservation into the land of Euro-irrelevance.

It would be good to see them come back to the fold, especially since we rebuilt them after they supported the Nazis and I am not sure if we have received our full ROI.

Of course the liberals will be apopletic to see real leaders back at the helm there. Boni!

Donna Brazile just put her head on the chopping block. The wrath she will face form her fellow Dems will be intense. She just took a huge political risk in order to help her hometown. Now hopefully the administration can follow through with a fast and efficient reconstruction plan so her actions where not taken in vain. I hope the old axiom of "no good deed goes unpunished" will not come true. I am a fiscal conservative, but this is not the time and place for it. The time to be fiscally conservative is when the farm bill, the energy bill or other such nonsense comes before Congress. Not when a disaster relief and reconstruciton effort comes before congress.
