Trump called him a third rate lawyer in a tweet earlier today, so you at least have a higher impression of him. I don't know the guy or anything at all about your arrangement other than what you just said. But I really doubt that's how he actually thought about it. It sounds to me like he was saying what he thought would get him out of trouble for lying. Not saying that isn't a shitty thing to do. But I think when he was saying it that he probably truly thought you'd understand being thrown under the bus to save his relationship (especially if you guys were truly close).
