Also, everything they do is most likely mapped out and scheduled way before the show begins (barring catastrophe). They test each of the legs out with employees of the show long before the contestants get involved. They know who will be where, when and they most likely had it set up so that all three teams would be on that flight for the last leg. Unfortunately, they didn't account for Uchenna's team being the worst beggars ever and Kelly's team not knowing how to drive to the airport. Hell, the last few challenges were intentionally super-easy (cut onions, hit a golf ball 140 yards, find a store) that they probably thought there was no way there wouldn't be a mad dash to the finish line).
What is more likely (to me, at least) is one of the following: (i) the flight was going to be slightly delayed in taking off or the pilot knew s/he had enough in-flight make up time that s/he decided to take the extra passenger since it wouldn't affect the arrival time, (ii) an American Airline exec, on their own (with full knowledge of when the racers would arrive on the last leg, I'm sure), decided to increase their advertising (and air) time by agreeing to open the door when they otherwise wouldn't or (iii) the pilot really didn't like Rob and Amber.
I'm fine with all three of those. And if it's (iii), Rob should shut the fuck up because he got on another flight at an earlier point in the race after the door had closed on him. He seems to have a selective memory when it comes to conspiracy theories.
