I don't think that's quite right. People will not object to real security measures that make them safer and involve some inconvenience. Nobody really thinks that all of TSA's stupid rules and procedures make you safer.
Oh, bullshit. Everyone is bitching and moaning about having to do ANYTHING at the airport.

Ty, the tide of the board and history has turned on you in recent days. Futile is resistance.

When you start sounding like ppnyc, that's a bad sign. I recommend you sit back and enjoy a glass of a fine Washington state boxed wine.

Ty -

My simple point was that you'd sooner fuck your mother in the ass than concede a point regarding Bush. You have this need to take any news that helps Bush (as the terrorist plot thwarted does, since it bolsters the public's view that it needs a strong GOP hawk in office) and find some criticism of it to champion, no matter how weak the criticism or source. I can drag you around for countless posts, arguing absurd nonsense (we should have been banned from bringing liquids on planes long ago) because you become blind and irrational in these debates.

I don't know why, but I think the reason you do this is the same reason people are afraid to vote Democratic - the fear that all you people stand for is hatred of Bush. Brother, you gotta stand for more than that if you want to get elected.

Some batteles aren't worth fighting. Trying to spin the terrorist plot of this week into a story about how bad our security is, and by extension, Bush is, is a fucking lead zeppelin.

Is that clear enough?

I agree, but I think it's only because none of that shit makes you safer. It's an exercise in looking busy and CYA.

I declare Ty temporarily insane.

If I were there, dude, I'd grab you from the office and demand you have a stiff martini asap. You're thru the looking glass, and as I've said so many times, I know the looking glass better than anyone here.

I'm not sure my faculties are in perfect working order, but I recognize yours aren't right now.

Yesterday, you conceded that DHS was inept. Today you've changed your mind. Meanwhile, no one else here seems to think DHS is doing a good job.

What point here do you think you're making that I'm not conceding?

eta: If you're hearing something different from me, it's because I was bored yesterday and decided to respond to Penske's posts instead of ignoring him. Someday soon I'll start billing hours again.

Sebby, when text on the interwebs is underlined, that often means it's a hypertext link, and clicking on it will take you to other web pages, with stuff on them like pictures from the GOP web site.

Good. Having met a number of people who lost body parts to Renamo, I am possibly a little sensitive to any suggestion that they were any better than the worst of the PLO, for example.

You know what would cut down on the bullshit time wasting and cut directly to the heart of safety?

Racial and Religious Profiling.

Heaven forbid we do that, however. Might hurt someone's feelings.

Adder 08-11-2006 01:39 PM

Take that, Ned

As I said to Penske above, I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but I suspect we agree completely on this. I want smart people at airports who are using their brains to look for danger signs and ask the right questions.

Larry puts the rabbit in the hat. His is the sort of terrible cheap argument you might see some badly trained low grade lawyer offer in discovery court.
Are there explosive detecting puffer machines (or whatever they are really called) in every security line? Alternatively, are there explosive sniffing dogs? Are checked bags screened for explosives?

I don't know if it would work, but I do think we should start discussing this possibility. There are some huge hurdles to get over though.
