So what you're saying is that he has no appreciation for subtext?

Where have I heard this before?

Oh, bullshit. Her post was half literal, half joke. I got the mushroom joke, but it was a rhetorical joke, if there is such thing... it invited no reply, so it received none. The remainder of her post was earnest, so I replied.

I don't interpret. I respond. Its like tennis. I bat the ball back. I am a child.

No, but Abe is a hero of mine.

FWIW, I was reminded of the whole "Abe Froman, Sausage King of Chicago" thing about a week ago when I saw a very nice luxury sedan in the Loop with the Illinois plates "AB FROMN".

Couldn't help laughing.

With the car and the plates (with their subtext), I bet that guy gets all the chicks.

Wow. I figured he'd force Snyder to fire him and eat his contract (or at least part of it).

So, Nebraska, or N. Cal., where he can golf most of the year?

I'm a little new to this subtext thing, so please forgive me if I ask a few stupid questions. When you say that there's a subtext there, do you mean that Kathleen Turner's presence is implied in the movie, or that because Karen Allen is so bad, the viewer infers KT as a superior option? Would the implied/inferred parts be reversed if the viewer were Coltrane, and was this accounted for by the movie's producers? Does KT receive any compensation for her implied/inferred appearance in Raiders?

She wasn't. But maybe there's a subtext there too...

Personally I wish she was because I can't stand Karen Allen in that movie (or in any other for that matter -- she's awful in Animal House too). Maybe its the writing, but they set her up as being tough at first, then the rest of the movie is all damsel in distress, help me, help me crap. And that voice...

As bad as she is in Raiders, she is not as abysmal as the future Mrs. Spielberg in Temple of Doom.

Actually I was referring to the possibility that BnB had some subtextual reason for referring to Sebby's and Paigow's interactions as like that of two actors (Ford and Turner) in a movie in which only one of them appeared....

So, I'm driving home last night, and the radio station I'm listening to starts playing this new single by the band Live, and it occurs to me. I hate that band. I mean really, really hate them. Hate them with the fire of a thousand suns.

Why, you may ask? They suck the ass. Every song I've ever heard by them, without exception, is a bloated, pompous bag of crap. They're like Rush without the musicianship.

So I change the station. The other station is playing a song by, you guessed it -- Live.

What the fuck is the appeal of this band, and for what reason, other than "radio sucks", do they get so much freaking airplay? Does payola still exist? Do they have compromising pictures of the two or three brain-dead chimps responsible for programming the majority of radio stations in this country? Can someone please tell me, why, for the love of God, this band even has a career?

(Dammit -- No XM this X-Mas)

[EOR]
This rant is not your best work. Brain-dead chimps don't care about compromising pictures.

That is all.
