I'm sure there are places we can stop and eat pie and see giant balls of twine and UFOs and snake farms and natural bridge cabins and random music festivals all over the country. Amarillo isn't the final destination, by any means, in the FB road trip.

Coincidentally, I found this passage in the book (Deepsix by Jack McDevitt) I am reading last night:

2-3 hours of swimming at a vigourous pace is easily another 2200-2700.

I just recently got back into swimming and am doing about 45min 4 times a week and I am cutting weight faster than I was when I was just doing the treadmill bullshit.

Not to say there's anything wrong with the treadmill bullshit. It just doesn't work for me.

You're overestimating your yardage for a 2.5-3 hours swim, but yeah, that's about how much I swam (time, not distance) back then.

So, I just received the result in a non-jury case (it only took the judge 60 days or so after the trial to issue it), and it is a complete and utter victory. Kresge's victory is so complete that it is as if we not only pulled down the walls and pillaged the town, but as if we salted the earth and allowed a prison, a Wal-Mart, and a junkyard into the McMansion gated communities of our enemies.

(Whoa. What an analogy. And that sentence? Anyway.)

You would think that Kresge would be pleased. What is their reaction? Joy? A hearty thank you? A date with Ashley Judd?

No. Here's a verbatim transcript (the hot court reporter was still in the office after Fenwick finsihed deposing a chiropractor, and since I thought I was about to be praised, I put the call on speaker, and asked her to type) of the call:

Kresge: Hello?

Not Bob: Hey, Kresge Dude, it's Not Bob. [pause] From Podunkville. [pause] The Fluffernutter trial?

Kresge: Oh. Yeah. So, what's up with that case?

Not Bob: Funny you should ask.

Kresge: Why is that funny?

Not Bob: Uh, I meant that that's why I called. To tell you what's up with that case. The decision came in -- we won. Zero, plus costs, plus fees.

Kresge: Fees. You know, they were only asking for $10,000, and we could have paid them that to go away. Instead we're paying you a hell of a lot more than that.

Not Bob: Well, yes, and I mentioned that to you at the mediation. Repeatedly. As did the mediator. And opposing counsel. And Mrs. Fluffernutter. Heck, I think that the UPS guy told you that, too.

Kresge: Well, we can't pay extortion. And how come we didn't get summary judgment, anyway? What is it with the courts in [square Midwest state], anyway?

Not Bob: Uh, I dunno, I'm just a Podunk lawyer. I only know about my courts. Anyway, I'll forward the decision to you.

Kresge: Right. And they owe us fees, right?

Not Bob: Yup.

Kresge: Why don't we just assign our claim to you in exchange for the final bill? Call it even.

Hot Court Reporter: That's just mean.

Kresge: Huh? What did you say?

Not Bob: [aside] Tell me about it. [into phone] Uh, I said, the local bar rules don't allow that. Unfortunately.

Kresge: Well, too bad. That would give you an incentive to really track her assets down.

Not Bob: Yeah, well, I doubt that her trailer and Chevy Vega are worth all that much.

Kresge: Got to run, Not Bill. I'll talk to you later -- my supervisor had some questions about the fax charges on your February bill, so let's follow up. [click]

Not Bob: Yeah, expedite it. We'll read. Send the invoice to [Kresge].

Would that the treadmill bullshit could work for anyone over 30. God, I hate exercising. Riddle me this: has anyone ever used one of those motion pools that keeps you swimming in the same place instead of doing laps? Damn in-air catalog on American flights makes it look so easy! Is there any risk of injury if you like stop swimming or swim too slow? Like the equivalent of falling off the treadmill?
