What area of Austin should I stay in? Why isn't Zilker Park on any maps and where can I find a map of Austin with it on there? Do I need to rent a car to get around or will we be ok with shuttles/cabs from airport to hotel and hotel to Zilker Park, with some walking if necessary? Even though it's Austin, it's still Texas, so is it an incredibly bad idea to smoke some joints?

Up to one in 25 dads could unknowingly be raising another man's child, UK health researchers estimate.
Increasing use of genetic testing for medical and legal reasons means more couples are discovering the biological proof of who fathered the child.

The Liverpool John Moores University team reached its estimate based on research findings published between 1950 and 2004.[/list]
Duh. They're British.

Your legal news update

NEW YORK (AP) -- A civil court judge ruled Wednesday that the landmark punk club CBGB's can't be evicted from its Bowery location, saying it shouldn't be punished for not noticing it owed its landlord money. The ruling was a victory for the club where groups like the Ramones and Blondie defined the punk scene in the 1970s, but CBGB's future is still uncertain.

The dispute involved about $100,000 in rent increases, interest and fees. The club says the increases went unpaid for four years because of a bookkeeping mix-up. CBGB's said it wasn't billed for the increases, but Rosenblatt said the increases were clearly stated in the lease. CBGB's rent is $19,000 a month.

In her ruling, Judge Joan Kenney praised the club's impact on the neighborhood, which she said was plagued by "destitution, degradation and substance abuse" when the club opened in 1973.

Does that mean it's different now?

Downtown, or as close as you can get at this late date. I usually stay here: http://austin.hyatt.com/property/index.jhtml or here:
http://www.radisson.com/hoteldirecto...08110508120510
but I'm sure those are booked by now (they are one the same street as the park - long walking distance in case cabs are hard to come by). This year Mr Man and I are staying at the Intercontinental downtown.

Zilker Park is right across the river (they may call it a lake) from downtown. I don't know why the maps you have wouldn't have it. It is a big park.

Cabs and walking work out fine. Better even. There are shuttles and only shuttles and cabs are allowed into the park during ACL. Having a car would be a total PITA.

Q: In your "Midseason Form" column, you write about how your wife hates Mariah Carey and that most women do. Try this: Tell your wife that you find Jennifer Love Hewitt attractive and you enjoy her acting. You may even be able to squeeze a whole column out of her reaction and the pure bile that women spit when hearing her name. Ask any sisters, sisters-in-law, other female friends; they all hate her universally, and it is unexplainable.
--Jack, Cleveland

SG: Just for the record, I tried this with the Sports Gal this week ... she reacted like George Brett in the Pine Tar Game. Highest of high comedy. Somebody needs to film the pilot, "Everybody Hates Jennifer."

Is this true? If so, why?

From what I've heard, all the centrally located hotels are booked. You're welcome to stay with me, but I think all the beds are spoken for. You may be more comfortable trying to arrange a MFM with ncs and Mr. Man, who usually stay at the Hyatt.

I don't know why you can't find Zilker park on a map, but it's a big park just south of the river and south of downtown. The address is 2100 Barton Springs.

There is no parking at the festival, but an illustrious former poster lives near Zilker Park and has offered parking. There are shuttles from downtown that are convenient. I'll probably just cab it to avoid having to maintain sobriety.

People light up all over the place at ACL and I've never seen anybody being hassled for it. The cops seems genuinely interested in just maintaining the peace. That said, don't be stupid about it. They do perform a search upon entry, but it is quite cursory, and I have it on good authority that a certain poster was able to smuggle in a couple of pounds of BBQ from the famous Giddings Meat Market with little problem.

I would think that the most reaction Jennifer Love Hewitt would inspire among most women is indifference. I don't know anyone who hates her. Although I can't remember ever discussing the subject.

She's merely annoying, mostly due to the squinting. She doesn't inspire bile. Julia Roberts is another story.

The problem is the "and". I don't think that there is an argument that she is attractive, subject to subjective qualifications, but her acting sucks. Tying the one to the other corrupts the results.

I'm not entirely sure I would fuck Julia Roberts if she weren't famous.

JLH is a different story, though.
