Re the urban professionals, that’s this board. I mean, everyone here jerks each other off about helping the poor, but not a one of us would dare fuck with the system in such a way that it damaged our revenue streams substantially.

We’re all about giving a few bucks more to the safety nets. But a policy that’d really help the lower classes at our expense? Fuck that.

I’m of the belief paralegals should be allowed to go to court on minor matters, that law schools should be two years, and that we should be allowed to split fees with non-lawyers. This would create loads of income in our field for non-lawyers, at cost us (we being beneficiaries of a license leveraging scheme). How many altruistic folks here would get behind that? Right. Tumbleweeds.

(Now cue some ass arguing that we need to limit who can practice this joke profession for “regulatory” reasons... to protect consumers.)

I'm not sure what the fuck Izzo is doing with his current approach to questions about this. If he were smart, he'd have done a sit-down interview with Outside the Lines to get it all out. The questions about why the assistant coach was fired/placed on leave shortly(?) after he was accused of assault and/or sexual assault need to be addressed. I'm not sure how the accusation against the basketball players relates back to his program--I believe it came out after they left, but I could be very wrong.

He looks absolutely crazy dodging these questions with a "I support the survivors, I have and will cooperate with any investigation" response to everything.

Hey, the litigation aspect of law is something I'd make massive changes to. It's a crazy way to resolve disputes. Screw minor matters. I'd love to move to a judicial panel that doesn't require trained lawyers but has rotating non-lawyer experts advised by a lawyer, so a bunch of engineers and school teachers actually decide whether your patent is good or your motion should be heard, rather than a judge with a history of cozying up to politicians. The jury shouldn't be set off in a box on the side, they ought to be slimmed down and given the judge's seat.

And I'd let the judicial panel run discovery instead of the lawyers on either side.

Think bigger.

Yeah, that whole "expand Medicaid so more people can get health care" and "raise the minimum wage" and "make it easier to go to college" is nothing but a middle finger.

There's a huge difference between "can't help the truly fucked" (which is a much smaller group than you think it is) and "fuck them."

And, of course, the obstacle to doing more - childcare, for example - isn't the Dems.

I'm not sure I know a single minority trump voter, other than one lyft driver I was chatting with one day in the car. I know one guy (hispanic) who thought about it until his wife set him straight.

I know a number of minority voters who have cast ballots for other republicans, including Charlie Baker.

it is curious. the two players were freshmen, I believe. as to why Walton was fired/quit, maybe there was some agreement, but he should at least say that. I think the guy leaving once accused is a positive, why create controversy where you did something correct? unless the school has a "shut up everyone" order in place.

what money Michigan has left after we settle with Flint residents is going to Nassar survivors. there are competing things going on that might impact him.

The closest thing today to something like union bargaining to improve the life of a wide swath of people that can be done legislatively is the minimum wage. Find me a Republican who will go to $15.

Legally, there are some things that can be done to help unions in their current form, but the key thing is imagining how unions look when you have more transitory jobs rather than lifetime industrial plant jobs. Think carpenters and musicians for models. Then you have to get those models going in a broader range of industries, including in professional and tech offices.
