Has anyone ever won anything out of one of these machines?
Don't know original source of the article. It was e-mailed to me by a friend.
Boy gets stuck in supermarket game machine - - - - - - - - - - - - Jan. 5, 2004 | SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (AP) -- A 7-year-old boy had to be rescued with the help of a locksmith Saturday after crawling into a supermarket's stuffed animal game machine while his father talked on the telephone. "He was sitting right in there with the stuffed animals," said Shift Commander Mark Zittel of the Sheboygan Fire Department. He said the boy, whose name was not released because he is a minor, crawled through about an 8-inch-by-10-inch opening to get into the glass enclosure via a chute where the toys come out, but when he tried to get back out his way was blocked. The stuffed animals are prizes that can be hooked by players with a crane-like device. "His dad was three feet away at a pay phone," Zittel said. "He was talking on the phone and he said the next thing he turned around and the kid was in the thing." He said the boy stayed calm and didn't panic as firefighters responded to the Piggly Wiggly store and then moved the game machine to the back of the store and got a locksmith to open the main loading door. The process took about an hour. "There was no panic," Zittel said. "We could have broke the glass if there was an emergency." The boy was not injured or traumatized but desperately had to go to the bathroom, he said. But rescuers hadn't figured out how the boy was able to crawl into the game, or why no one in the store's busy lobby spotted him and stopped him before he got inside. |

Atkins and Law School
I don't understand how people on the Atkins diet can consume more calories than people on the low-fat diet but lose more weight (from BRC's earlier post). I thought weight loss was strictly a matter of calories consumed minus calories expended. Does the Atkins diet make you consume more calories than if you ate the same number on a non-Atkins program?
As for law school, I was a talker but I'm hoping not to the point of becoming hated. At least I was never the free space in gunner bingo. My talking was partly as a strategy to reduce the risk of being called on when I didn't know the answer and partly because, like many Es (on the Myers-Briggs scale), I talk to process information. I also read all the cases and took comprehensive notes in class. Law school was totally on my dime and I was terrified that I wouldn't get a job after school (my law school wasn't one where merely graduating guaranteed a good job) so I took studying quite seriously. I actually enjoyed everything about law school except exams. There was a transgendered woman in my class. I had lead a very sheltered life and was a bit freaked out at first. I also think it was early in the process (serious 5 o'clock shadow by Con Law). By the end of school either I was just used to thinking of her as a she or 3 years of hormones made her look less like a guy. One woman in my Tax class got the prof so angry he had it in for our whole class. She would always argue that various provisions were racist or sexist. She got all worked up that awards given in professional sports are taxable but the Nobel Prize and similar academic ones aren't. The professor responded that anyone who thought blacks couldn't win a Nobel Prize was the racist. I blame her for my bad grade in that class because the exam was beyond brutal. One of the guys who was most vocal in his hatred for law school is now a tenured professor at a law school. Go figure. |

Pete Rose On Deck
So Pete Rose has admitted he did bet on baseball, including the Reds (to win only).
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...ok.ap/?cnn=yes Selig apparently has implied with an admission he'd let Pete in. Quote:

Why Rose's admission that he bet on baseball should allow him back in is beyond me: he was banned from the game for betting, not for lying about doing so. He should never be allowed to participate in a major league game again. Let him into the hall of fame, as far as I'm concerned, but the permanent ban on participation should stand. |

Not that it hasn't been simply charming...
Bit isn't it time we moved on here? Perhaps a hypothetical would help.
If X, a married, fat bald, hairy lecherous tax attorney were to walk into a bar in Washington DC, our nation's capital and a place where such people are not universally shunned on sight, and offer to buy R, a svelte, witty, young-ish single but committed an attorney a drink, would her slapping him constitute: a) an ancient tort b) a civil rights violation; c) a low-carb cardio activity (Atkins-approved); d) CBS's newest reality show; or e) A PLEA TO FUCKING MOVE ON TO SOMETHING MORE INTERESTING FOR GOD'S SAKE EVEN DRUGS CAN'T MAKE THIS DRIVEL INTERESTING |
