Poll: On the Road
In the next couple of weeks, I'll be driving to the West Coast. Essentially, I'll have me, my car, and my CD collection. Though much of the time will (of course) be spent driving, I've got about 5-6 days to play with.
We've already done the road-trip CD collections, etc. So here's a slightly different question. If you had to drive across the country, is there a particular place, thing, meal, or experience you would be sure to stop and see or have? (I'm not thinking here of stopping to visit (say) your cousin Frank in Iowa City, primarily because having an imaginary internet friend visit your relatives would be unsettling to them, and confirm much of what they've already thought about you. Sure, there's probably some value in that -- but I have no desire to enmesh myself in your little family drama.) Instead, I'm wondering about things like whether C2ed has a particular suggestion about the painted desert in AZ. Or if NotBob wishes to share the location of his most highly recommended Piggly Wiggly. Or if ShapeShifter has a suggestion for the best mammalian strip club in Tulsa. Etc, etc. There's no fixed route as of yet, but know for general purposes that MapQuest tells me that in my trip from DC to LA, I should pass through PA, OH, IN, IL, MO, OK, TX, NM, AZ, and CA. Suggestions anywhere in the neighborhood are appreciated, and even ones that I can't use (like, say, Maine) would still be nice to hear about. See you on the other side -- Gattigap |

I do believe you're confusing "realist" with "cynic." Is anything I wrote generally incorrect? S("Cynic" - one who throws out unpopular facts)D |

Sorry thats in SD. How about this? Be sure to hit Prescott, AZ right at sunset and travel down that windy road from the high desert to the low desert real slowly and enjoy the most beatufiful sunset vista you will ever see in your life. Go slowly bc it might be real easy to fall off th road a la Toonces. Try to hit Santa Fe in a thunderstorm if possible. And there are some neat ruins near the Four Corners in SW Co and NW NM- pueblos. And be sure to catch Siegfried and Clay in Vegas. |

Cynic: "A person who believes all people are motivated by selfishness. A person whose outlook is scornfully and often habitually negative." That's you boo bear. Or rather, the you as you present it on the boards. |

Allentown/Bethlehem PA has interesting views from the hillsides; and The Mark Twain National Forest in Missouri is an awesome drive, sorta like the West Virginia/Maryland border areas. Lot of sharp turns on inclines etc. Gotta sports car? Hello |
