How's This For Profiling?

  • British holidaymakers staged an unprecedented mutiny - refusing to allow their flight to take off until two men they feared were terrorists were forcibly removed.

The extraordinary scenes happened after some of the 150 passengers on a Malaga-Manchester flight overheard two men of Asian appearance apparently talking Arabic.

Passengers told cabin crew they feared for their safety and demanded police action. Some stormed off the Monarch Airlines Airbus A320 minutes before it was due to leave the Costa del Sol at 3am. Others waiting for Flight ZB 613 in the departure lounge refused to board it.

That didn't represent a complete and total disregard for the very foundation of our personal liberties and democratic system of government.

Yes. one bottle contained a cleaning solution with trace amounts of bleach, the other something equally as innocuous.

No, ignoring the rule of law for one's own personal gain and interest is the bedrock upon which our system is built. In fact, having the CEO of the US engage in such behavior reinforces its importance to the system.

When does the slippery slope of blatant disregard for the rule of law become material?

I wonder how inocuous it would have been when she stormed the cockpit and blinded the pilot with that solution and then took the plane down. Ensuring against such a security risk is not worth inconveniencing passengers from being able to take cleaning solutions onto a plane. Makese sense.

Maybe she just wanted to clean the interior windows? Helpfull, like Hank?

did you read Tony Blair's words about how the definition of civil liberties you refer to is obsolete, and of a different technological and political time? Me neither, but the NYT was talking about it today. the funny thing was the NYT reprinted the words like they came from a thoughtful statesman trying to craft a response to the new terror menace. If W had said the same, I know the NYT would have cast them in sinister light.

I had a dream where I was driving a car in a foreign country and terorists took me captive. They threatened me with a gun!

Anyway, just FYI, I beleive that puts me back on top in the "personal brush with terrorism" catagory.

Thank goodness you are safe. Imagine the harm if your expertise in photoshopping the Clintons had been lost to the country.

Thanks. Tragically, Barbara Olson was not so lucky.

Apparently, the Clintons placed a higher target value on authors of the written word than phottoshoppe artists.....

When he said "cleaning solution," he meant facial cleansor. I had understood that the trace amounts of bleach were on the outside of the bottle.

Was it the astringent kind? That can temporarily blinde someone.....long enough to grab the cockpit fire extinguisher and hit the pilot over the head with it.

no?

Slow PB day

I'll give you a topic:

In the long run, the biggest cost of Bush's fiasco in Iraq may be that it made military option impossible in Iran, a country that actually has a nuclear program.

I have no idea. But how did she get in the cockpit in the first place? And since she is in there, what about fingernails to the eyes? Shoulnd't we make her check her hands before boarding?
