Well, we're both in trouble with that one.

These are all going to lose. Pure and simple. Here's why --

1. Nobody likes Schwarzenegger anymore, and he's tied himself to these propositions too tightly to undo the knots before tomorrow.

2. People are pissed that there is a special election in an off year, and they don't like the waste of money it represents.

3. The unions have won the battle for the voters' attention.

4. Nobody likes Schwarzenegger anymore. You can't overemphasize this point.

5. Some of the propositions have stupid provisions. If the union members can opt out why should they be required to opt in for political support ? That was arrogant overreaching by Schwarzenegger and only fuels the suspicions that this is a power grab.

6. People have proposition fatigue. They want the politicians to start doing their job, not running to them with some inane proposition every time they don't get their way in Sacramento.

7. Did I mention that nobody likes Schwarzenegger anymore ?

Whichever is the proposition that gives the governor a line-item veto, I might vote for that one. I'm comfortable you won't see another Republican governor in Sacto for about 50 years, so I don't see it doing any fiscal damage.

I don't understand what you mean here. As I understand it right now union dues can be used for political purposes. Union members can not opt out. Under the new law union members would have to give permission for their dues to be used for political purposes. Do I have that wrong? What is wrong with that?
