I always had at least one and usually two other girls in my class with my name. It blew, because, with my last name, I was never the first one who was asked what I wanted to be called, and therefore frequently got stuck with some stupid teacher-chosen nickname to "distinguish" me.

My three favorite girls names not only do not appear in the top 1000, I have not been able to discover anyone currently living in the US with any of them. Of two of those, so far as I can tell, one has been given to about 40 girls in France over the last century, the other to about 15. The third, I haven't found anyone who's used it since about the year 700 (though, given the name, I admit there's a reason for that, love it though I do).

Freakonomics has a pretty amusing section on baby naming, socio-economic status and naming trends, actually. (And I recommend it again.)

I have no idea if he's going to name his son Evan or not, but how exactly does the above sound to you? You should say it out loud using your kid's name sometime (even if it's not top 50 and therefore boring).

RP is right. People shouldn't tell anyone their name ideas until it is a done deal.

I googled this -- he is 5'10"

I really thought he seemed taller than that.

The height thing (among other things) keeps me from being attracted to people like Cruise, Jude Law, Orlando Bloom, etc. Doesn't stop me from liking Colin Farrell though. I totally love Vince Vaughn -- it must be the height.

For the record, the only reason I commented in the first place about Str8's name choice is because it instantly made me think of Joe Millionaire, and that's not a great association.

I have a name strongly associated with a religious faith other than mine. That's been kind of annoying, and I've often wished my mother gave me a more jewish-sounding name.

The Brazenette has one of those names that was super popular when we were all growing up (which makes sense since she's named after my best friend). Despite that fact, she's never had another child in any of her classes or playgroups with her name... lots of moms, but no one her age.

Will Ferrell has stated he is six three but I woulda thought taller too. Tom Cruise is 5'7" on a good day. Brad Pitt is 5'8" tops, probably less.
