You honestly think that repeated use of a psychotropic drug like MDMA won't have any negative effects on the brain? I'm floored.
Is your BF a dealer or something? Honestly, I've never heard anyone as purportedly as educated as yourself say something so fucking idiotic as this.
Come on, Slave... Nothing's good for you in massive amounts. Its all about reasonable moderation. Taken responsibly on special occasions, E isn't going to damage your brain any more than an occasional piece of cheesecake is going to give you advanced heart disease.

And contrary to your theory, I believe acid and mushrooms actually help the brain. Yes, I understand just how Grace Slickishly naive that sounds, but between six packs, I do occasionally have some quite interesting creative revelations while tripping.

No, you flat out said it wasnt bad for you.

Anyway, I'm way over this discussion. Time to go listen to some Danny Tenaglia.

Show me where I said that. Without going in and editing my posts.

ETA - yes, I'm over this one too. my point was never that it is known to be safe, it was that it is not known to be as unsafe as other things that are not illegal.

Not, as a public service, I must remind you that MSNBC is the Jay Leno/Bill Cosby of news services.

In fact, it's "news" is just repackaged stuff from other places.

Save yourself. Find something hipper to quote.

A biography of Katherine Hepburn that is just coming out claims she had affairs with Judy Holliday, Judy Garland, and lots of others. Katherine was the Hepburn who was always wearing pants in the movies, for those who don't know 50's and 60's stars.

Come on man, it gave me the opportunity to say something snarky about Tom Brady. A quarterback who I hate almost as much as Kurt Warner. Hell, he's already taken away, "Brady's a fluke" from me - cut me a break.

Brady is cute though. More than can be said for Warner. Oh, and Brady won me $450. More than can be said for Warner. Oh, and Brady doesn't have that snarky bitchy wife like Warner does.

sort of like alcohol.
Heroin doesn't appear to be quite as bad as everyone commonly thinks it is. It is apparently only slightly more addictive than alcohol, and not nearly so much as cigarettes (though, of course, the cognitive impairment is quite different). Right about on par with speed, which my mother's generation still fondly remembers as "diet pills."

I've known a few (OK, 2) people whom I would qualify as "occasional recreational users without undue negative side effects" of heroin, and one whom I would qualify as a "she needs to cut that shit out" user. Worse odds than among my alcohol-using acquaintances, but that may have more to do with (i) my socioeconomic group and/or (ii) statistically insignificant sample size and/or (iii) give the drinkers a bit more time. In any event, my understanding (from a reasonable amount of unexpert and quasi-interested reading on the subject) is that the real problems with heroin stem from it being illegal (irregular dosage, cutting with soap, crime both among suppliers and users, etc.) and from the fact that the self-selected group motivated enough to seek out big-stigma illegal drugs like heroin have psychological profiles rather given to drug addition, more than the opiate per se.

But then the only crack smoker I've known personally (not counting the change-jangling guy on the corner a couple blocks from my place) also fits into the "occasional recreational user without undue negative side effects" category, so YMMV. I've known an awful lot of people who use coke, none of whom seem to have come down with a "problem." Which makes coke one hell of a lot safer than drink, pot or acid in the universe as defined by DS's annecdotal experience.

BR(legalize it, regulate it, tax it, arrest people operating cars or oil tankers on it)C

That wife of his is mainly the reason he's #1 on my list. That, and the fact that he lost me $250 in the pool. Bastard.
Tom Brady isn't really cute, but when you compare him to Warner, he's at least not as ugly. I can't explain it, I just don't like him.

NBA All Star Game

I'm a little ambivalent about LeBron not being chosen for the All Star team. Can someone convince me that he belongs there - this year? There seems to be some hoopla that he was snubbed.

Personally, I think he's got plenty of time to play in All Star Games, and while he's been a huge addition to the Cavaliers, I'm not quite sure he's up to par as an All Star.

What's to hate? Admit it already: Belichek was right about Drew Bledsoe. I liked Drew as much as the next guy, but it's time to move on.
