You know, I hate Bush as much (if not more) as the next person, but I can't imagine rioting over it. Those police and shop keepers in Argentina don't have anything to do with whatever the protesters' beef is. Keep them out of it.

Whatever you may think about Bush, the FTAA is the best hope for Latin America's poor. Poor countrys that enter free trade agreements with rich countries always beneft.

The reason that these people are attacking police and shopowners is because they are morons. These are socialists that can't face the reality that socialism is the biggest creator of poverty in the world.

So if you are so stupid as to think that a system that has never worked is a good sytem, you are also dumb enough to think that attacking cops and businesses is a good thing.

These people that demonstrate at WTO meetings, G8 meetings, IMF meetings are by definition stupid to begin with so one shoudl not be surprized when they do stupid things (like Riot).

If you drive in the snow a lot, or are a big outdoorsmen, then an SUV makes sense. But nintey seven percent of the people in California that drive them don't need them. They are just following a stupid fashion trend.

The safety and intimidation factors of a big arse Hummer combined with a well stocked 2nd Amendment protected arsenal make for a potent combo with which to combat the oppressive forces of socialism that the dimwits would visit upon us at the behest of their RedChinese overseers.

Be vigilant Spanky. A good offence is the best defence.

I find it hilarious that the protests in South America are getting more play than the riots in France.

Another non-statement from the Republican Majority for Choice

Alito Nominated to Supreme Court

President Bush named Judge Samuel Alito of the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals as his nominee to replace retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, in the wake of Harriet Miers removing her name from consideration. Judge Alito was confirmed to the District Court during the George H.W. Bush administration, and unlike Justice Roberts and Harriet Miers, he has sat on the bench for decisions pertaining to abortion and other choice-related issues. Alito served as assistant to the Solicitor General under President Reagan and as U.S. Attorney for the state ofNew Jersey. He argued twelve cases before the Supreme Court before being confirmed to the 3rd District Court in 1990.

Chairman of the Judiciary Committee Arlen Specter announced Thursday the hearings on Judge Alito's confirmation will January 9th. In the meantime, RMC is carefully reviewing Judge Alito's record on issues of importance to our members. Our preliminary research raises some serious concerns regarding his respect for precedent and judicial philosophy. Judge Alito was the lone dissenter in the 1991 case, Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania v. Casey. In his dissent, Alito argued to uphold abortion restrictions that even the U.S. Supreme Court did not. We have been in contact with moderate Senate leadership and are continuing our investigation. We will keep our membership updated on Judge Alito's nomination as this process continues.

Pro-Choice Republicans fighting an uphill battle

60-day Comment Period on Plan OTC Ends

On Tuesday, November 1st, the FDA's 60 day comment period on making Plan B emergency contraception available over the counter ended with little fanfare or comment from the FDA. The RMC joined four dozen other medical and choice organizations on October 4th in submitting official comments to the FDA urging them to abandon the rulemaking process and outlining why it is unnecessary. The FDA began the rulemaking this August, again avoiding making a decision on the Plan B application that has languished at the agency for 2 years.

The FDA will now review the tens of thousands of comments received and, if they continue with the process, they will then write a draft rule. This draft rule for how Plan B should be labeled and sold will then be reviewed by the FDA, the Department of Health and Human Services and the White House Office of Management of Budget. Once approved by all three, it will be published for yet another public comment period to begin the process again. Ultimately, this rulemaking could delay the process indefinitely.

Congressman Christopher Shays (CT-2) was part of a bi-partisan group who introduced legislation requiring a decision on Plan B in response to the FDA's delay. Shays stated, "The FDA has failed to take action on approving Plan B for over-the-counter status, despite scientific data that shows it would be safe." He continued, "The FDA should make decisions based on science, not politics and ideology. The bottom line is, expanded access to emergency contraception will safely decrease the risk of unintended pregnancy and decrease the number of abortions."

Vote on Stem Cell Research in the Senate Pushed Back

Faced with a busy fall of hurricane relief, Appropriations bills and Supreme Court nominations, the Senate will not take up the Stem Cell Research and Enhancement Act until after the winter recess. Senator Arlen Specter, the lead on the bill, discussed adding the measure as an amendment to a health spending bill but decided to drop the threat saying it could cause a "multi-faceted controversy".

Senator Specter had been joined by an array of Democrats and fellow Republicans in calling for a vote, but ultimately concluded the bill would get greater recognition in holding off until after the winter recess.

When I said France was lost earlier, the riots were what I was talking about.

Do you think France will nuke somebody once it starts getting its terrorist attacks?

I think this is what people mean when they talk about the unconcious, institutionalized racism in our society. I'm not trying to get all PC on your ass, Burger, but consider for just a moment what is implied in your statement.

2.

I tried to moved away from such unconcious institutionalized racism by self-identifying my southern-European-heritaged (with possibly a dash of illegimate native American) dusky olive/tan self as "swarthy" in anti-biased and diversity-embracing solidarity with the peoples of all colours of the globe.

Obviously, in other quarters the affect of Bobby Byrd's conscience is strong, much like the dark side of the force.

Please don't drink the kool-aide.
