Sampling
 

I didn't sample much before marrying young --- certainly not by any FB standards. I daily ogle good looking women --- esp. in the 21 to 28 range --- on an aesthetic and fantasy level, but at the seven year itch point I have yet to be "tempted" in the sense of hand-wringing, should-I-or-shouldn't-I agonizing. At a certain point in your life, there's too much to lose, and that point can happen early even if you marry young.

I also have a righteous self-image that does not permit cheating on my family. Putting affairs on a wholly theoretical level is what takes this load off my mind, not the feeling that I sowed a lot of wild oats in myriad furrows.

Because Hollywood producers and casting directors are retarded.

A more interesting question is why don't the remakes generally play it straight? Why does every motion picture treatment of a 60's or 70's television series have to either be a comedy or a parody (if the original series was loosely defined as a comedy)?

Because, hopefully Carrey has realized that he can't do serious acting? And maybe now all his movies will be slapstick, stupid comedy the way they should be. I think this has potential if they give him some decent material, it could be hilarious.

I read a magazine piece in about 1995 about the then-impending 1970s nostalgia craze. The theory was that '90s irony would do well to revive anything on television before 1975, because it was so naive (i.e., Brady Bunch) and ripe for hipster mockery, the only form of humor known in the mid-'90s. Anything on television after 1975 was already ironic and cold (i.e., Charlie's Angels) and so sending it up would be redundant.

Of course, this does nothing to explain the commercial success of the suck-ass Charlie's Angels movie franchise, but I don't think we want to see movie versions of "C.P.O. Sharkey" or "One Day at a Time" either.

Can't quite see him as Darren (either one). But he would make a great Dr. Bombay.

I personally don't dress as well as I should, but I am getting better about it.

You are right though, that is how I look at women. Your statement caused me to think about it, and I actually had that happen just recently.


I walked into a meeting, last week I guess it was. This pleasing looking woman greeted me, shook my hand, usual stuff. I was a bit nervous about the meeting so I didn't really notice her too much.

As the meeting went on I started to notice her though. Partially because she acted very interested, and not in a meeting kind of way, after she learned my involvement with some organizations that would, stereotypically at least, suggest my orientation. When something like that happens that makes me aware a woman just might be a lesbian, I pay more attention I think. Especially if she just might be a lesbian who happens to be interested in me.

As the meeting continued I definitely found myself appraising her more. And I noticed the suit was well fitted to her frame (which was a nice frame), the silk blouse she was wearing set it off nicely, her makeup was perfect, shoes fabulous, hair just right. She came over to me after the meeting was over and we chatted briefly.

All this together, the looks, the way she was dressed and of course the fact she was obviously very intelligent left me with the following impression: Very very nice. And I hope she's gay. And then, I hope she's single.

Fortunately I will find these things out soon enough over lunch.


Also fortunately I was dressed rather smartly on that day myself.

Sampling
 

I've not sampled a lot, and I think I would be better off if I had when I was younger. I think the experience of trying different people out (and I don't necessarily mean in bed) helps you to get a picture of what you are into and what you don't want.

I generally agree with what you are saying, but how does the Six Million Dollar Man not fall into the above category?

I don't think parody would fit it well because it's already sort of a parody.

(Even though it started in 1974, I think, though I didn't Google).

I'm thinking Uncle Arthur.

Edited to add: Who is playing Endora? Talk about a key role. If Lauren Bacall is willing and able, she'd be great for the role.

No, I understand all that. I meant that it was a joke that the NY is so expensive that Cravath partners have to have roommates. They might choose to have roommates, or might have "roommates" that are really "partners," and not the law firm kind, but not for money reasons.

We all know that the NY is expensive, but it's not like it's expensive enough that a partner at Cravath is going to need to have a roommate. Hell, the moon's not that expensive.

I am now going to start referring to New York as "the NY." I invented it.

I like it. Just how I liked it when Toni Kukoc used to refer to Shaquille O'Neal as "The Shaq", as in "we must stop The Shaq".

And as a bonus, I think he said all of this while wearing his Members Only jacket.
