In Michigan yes! But before we start sucking each other’s dick Hershel Walker might still be a Senator.

Re: Implanting Bill Gates's Micro-chips In Brains For Over 20 Years!

Michigan's legislature historically did the redistricting after each census. At some point the Republicans controlled both houses. The districts became severely Gerrymandered and the Rs have controlled both houses since. We are a pretty blue state (we just passed a proposal to amend the State constitution to prevent any law restricting abortion by about 55% as an example). but we kept getting crazed laws whenever we had an R Gov.

In 2018 a ballot proposal took redistricting away from the legislature and appointed a commission with 4 Rs, 4 Ds and 1 independent (I do not know how someone proves they are independent). They redistricted after 2020 census. On Tuesday the Ds took both houses handily.

I don't think people are using the power of ballot proposals anywhere near what they should be doing.

I wish to holy hell we had them down here for this and abortion.

of course, California is a cautionary tale of when ballot proposals go insane.

Totally varies state by state. There's way too much of it in California. ETA As RT said. Every election we get to vote on whether to make it impossible to run a dialysis clinic, and this time we had two internet gambling measures to reject, so there'll probably be more of that.

True enough.

I don't really dislike either of them too much. Oz was a boring moderate R and Fetterman does have an earnest focus on helping the "left behind" sorts in PA.

My gripe about populists supporting Fetterman is he attracted a lot of the dim voters. People for whom residence is most important, and "lookin' like us." I'm more annoyed that the Commonwealth is so provincial, so parochial, than I am at Fetterman. He actually ran brilliant campaigns to position himself to beat Conor Lamb in the primary and then to beat Oz in the general.

Trump courted the same populists in 2016. Grabbed the "You can have a beer with me, and I'll bring your jobs back" vote.

Say what you will about referenda, but they do hedge against personality cults and tyranny of the minority.

The country supports abortion rights. In states where abortion has been restricted, a thin band of officious legislators thwart the wishes of a significant majority.

But that can't happen when referenda are passed blocking those legislators' ability to fiddle with abortion rights. As we saw happen in 6 states, many red ones, this cycle.

The thing is, Oz is a snake oil salesman prone to weirdness of the right wing kind.

As to your thoughts Fetterman, look, we need to get dim voters as well as smart voters. Every vote is equal. If winning elections means, oh, golly, we even had dim voters supporting us, I'm on board. Republicans have made an art of chasing the dim vote, to the point where they now are overwhelmed with dim candidates.

My biggest disappointment this cycle is that instead of losing and riding off into the sunset on Lenny Dykstra, Boebert looks like she will go back to congress and continue to bring the IQ of the whole institution measurably down.

It’s 2022. Mansplaining what Regis means? Really? Necessary because PLF is from Minnesota, and Sebby is from Pa and Ty is, well, Ty?

Hmmm. No, you know what, we need you back. I can’t fight their collective ignorant anymore on my own. Start with PLF and why wearing bike shorts on Zoom calls does require being mindful of camera angles?

Oz is a total huckster, but I don't think he's sincerely right wing. (I think Oz was an odd pick for Trump. He claims Melania suggested Oz. McCormick would've beaten Fetterman. Trump will withhold sex from Melania as punishment, cruel bastard that he is.)

I think I just have to come to terms with the fact that PA is a dim Commonwealth, and Oz and Fetterman might reflect exactly its voting public.

A thin GOP majority in the House is the worst of all possible worlds. The nutjobs get to play the Sinema/Manchin roles.

Interesting story in the NYT this morning, election deniers held down R turnout; as in what’s the point of voting?

That is correct. Rejection of (or just not addressing) election denialism is the low bar for moderate right now.

But I also don't think any sane, competent medical professional (he has done loads of heart transplants and run a corporation/brand for some time) is able to actually tow a pro-life line. He couldn't agree on any federal prohibition during the debate or campaign and punted with the "leave it to the states" line. Which is easy for him, as PA is never going to outlaw or restrict the procedure.

The Post is the Walter Cronkite of conservative America. The sting of being treated that dismissively by it must have Trump in full on meltdown. Even worse, he knows Rupert is laughing to himself, "Well, that useful idiot served his purpose and then some. Lotta value there, for bargain basement effort."

I have not seen his contract, nor am I sure what basis they are using to claim breach. For walking out during the Tottenham game? For the Piers Morgan interview?
