Spanky 08-23-2005 08:01 PM

I am swamped today so I only get to make a quick post. I have to mush it all together.

1) The Hippo Story was great. Much apreciated in Spankyland.

2) The people that have a problem with Doonesbury need to lighten up. And what ever happened to Phred?

3) Interesting story: Please note the line: School officials are not sure what has caused so many pregnancies,

65 Girls At Area School Pregnant
School To Unveil Three-Prong Program

CANTON, Ohio -- There are 490 female students at Timken High School, and 65 are pregnant, according to a recent report in the Canton Repository.

The article reported that some would say that movies, TV, videogames, lazy parents and lax discipline may all be to blame.

School officials are not sure what has caused so many pregnancies, but in response to them, the school is launching a three-prong educational program to address pregnancy, prevention and parenting.

The newspaper also reported that students will face mounting tensions created by unplanned child-rearing responsibilities, causing students to quit school and plan for a GED. This will make it difficult for the Canton City School District to shake its academic watch designation by the state.

According to the Canton Health Department, statistics through July show that 104 of the 586 babies born to Canton residents in Aultman Hospital and Mercy Medical Center had mothers between 11 and 19.

Is it just me or is the answer to that question rather obvious?

National Geographic 9/11 Special

Did anyone else watch this last night? I thought it was quite well done. And I didn't realize that there were firefighters who survived the fall of the North Tower because the 6th-1st floor stairwell stayed intact.

Good job collecting witness and family member accounts. And I liked the way they layed it all together chronologically. And, of course, it was very hard to watch.

It put my stupid-ex-husband-debt-troubles into perspective.

oh stop being disingenuous. The only explanation of why this is even a Story is that this is a much greater proportion of the female student body that is pregnant than had been in years past. Obviously more students are having sex without effective birth control (which could mean more students are having sex, but the proportion using effective birth control has remained the same, or the same number of students are having sex, but they are no longer using effective birth control, or a combo of the two). Since pregnancy causes people to drop out of school, and can be unhealthy when the Girl's body is still fairly immature, the School quite rightly wants to see what they can do to further educational goals.

That's like someone analyzing the Baby boom and you saying more people got pregnant by having the sex, that's all, why look behind it.

Your analytical Skills leave much to be desired.

And the prurience, sadly, is predictable.

I find myself respecting club far more than Spanky. Scary.

The age of consent in CA is a flat 18. These are high school students.

I just don't think we should encourage him to get in trouble. We want to be good influences, right hank?

Those of us that he trusts are good influences. Others simply are not influential. No offense.

Well, if you are his Friend, and he trusts you, as you imply, then why are you encouraging him to commit statutory rape?

I can assure you that Spank would never do anything untowards. On the other hand, and perhaps you did not read the old spanky board, but the normal laws of our society have been discarded by spanky and his neighbors from his street. Who's to say what is "right" on that block?
