Perhaps I'm still a bit scarred from finding out that "chris" was not a bisexual chick with natural C-cup breasts who wore La Perla lingerie to work.

Whereas I will never forget the magic of the all-too-brief time I shared with The Daintiest Petunia.

Manti Teo's girlfriend was actually a Penske sock, right?

Maybe she was from Canada.

Wonder what Buzz Bissinger has to say now about bloggers eating cheetos in their parents' basement not being "journalists."

I typically agree with criticism of all kinds, but as a journalist, why would you think to double check stories about some dude's dead girlfriend? Why would anyone lie about that? It's such a bizarre thing to do. I can honestly say that if I heard that story from anyone I would probably believe it.

Didn't his dad say he actually had met her? And they're sports announcers not investigative journalists.

You check every story because if there's one story out there that turns out to be total bullshit you look like a fucking idiot and your career. Is. Over.

ETA: C'mon man, I know you watched season 5 of the Wire.

He said HE actually met her. Their first contact when when he gazed upon her eyes in the stands at the Stanford game: "Their stares got pleasantly tangled, then Manti Te'o extended his hand to the stranger with a warm smile and soulful eyes," according to a South Bend Tribune account of the pair's first meeting after Notre Dame's game against Stanford on November 28th, 2009."

Even though Rex Ryan already has a tatoo of his imaginary girlfriend on his buttocks, that smacks of bullshit.

Icky Thump 01-17-2013 02:01 PM

Here's the question

if you are inventing a fake girlfriend do you make her really fucking hot or very sad and pathetic for the sympathy? Maybe he should have said she was blind.

I'd bet Notre Dame has a person on staff whose job it is to vet these things to figure out which garner have the maximum ratings.

Only "investigative reporters" are supposed to fact check? And Sports Illustrated writers and editors are not "sports announcers" - they are supposed to be journalists. But I guess they are really just part of the entertainment business, and the story of the devout linebacker who was called back to play his senior year and who had to play through the death of his grandmother and girlfriend while possibly being the rare defenseman to win the Heisman excuses the fact that no one even thought to confirm any detail of the storybook romance.

I probably would believe it, too. But it's hard to believe that none of these MSM writers or editors thought to try to even contact the girl's family to see what they thought of how the poor linebacker was holding up or how proud she would be of him for talking with kids with cancer about how she struggled with the disease. Or how her Stanford classmates felt about how they met and how much they miss her.

Anyway.

Him believing he met her is not that far-fetched. I believe I actually met Little Caprice, and she had sex with me. Plus Adder claims he met someone. what would make me believe the story is the guy's dad seconding it.

Why do I feel like a bad person for giggling at this story?

I'm just really upset now at the thought that there might be no Paigow and Slave on the kitchen floor. Can I get a fact checker, please?
