Oh Jesuschrist, those people are idiots! A 540 doesn't hold anything? What you mean like lumber? Of course not. Jeez.
Have you driven an X5? Rides more like a car than the Exploder and IS able to haul lumber and about the same price as the 540i, is very quiet (for a truck type vehicle). I also drove the Mercedes M series, but really preferred the BMW for interior comfort - seats were nicer, not as flat. That said, the Mercedes had a awesome turning radius - good for those quick getaways from the Home Depot.

it's like a car wreck. Answers like "Parts are cheaper for the ford." As if.

that sux. bavauto.com has replacements for not that much. putting the new one on takes, if I recall, about 2 minutes and a screwdriver. they may sell them in three packs now.

Thanks, Burger. And my car thanks you. It looks much better now.

And I believe the $6.95 S&H covers the huge ass box they needed to send me their catalog.

Black Box

SIOUX FALLS, S.D., Aug. 19 — Rep. Bill Janklow ran a stop sign before his Cadillac collided with a motorcycle at a rural intersection over the weekend, killing the motorcycle rider, a prosecutor said Tuesday. Investigators still have not determined how fast Janklow was driving, said Moody County State’s Attorney William Ellingson. Careless driving, a misdemeanor punishable by up to 30 days in jail and a $200 fine, also could be charged if there is no evidence of recklessness
Talbot also said Janklow’s 1995 Cadillac has a black box, which records information such as how fast the car was going and whether the brakes were applied.
“We’ve recovered that and that’s going to be analyzed to see if any information can be derived from that,” Talbot said.

So here's the question...do all Cadillac's have the "black box?" Can it be uninstalled? Do other cars have this?

Holy crap! "Black boxes have been in all GM cars since 1999 and in many other makes and models since 1996." The fucking Chevy Cavalier has had them since 1996! Who knew?

The moral is: don't buy American.

Holy crap is right. Don't buy GM at least. I'm surprised that foreign cars don't have these as well. Or even sooner.

Did the ATLA pay off GM to install these?

Ummm, I don't. However, this will be important to know the next time some idiot in a Camaro rear ends me on the freeway. I can at least get the box and see if he "applied the brakes" and that he was doing "95 mph" at time of impact. Cool.

So now I'm counting on you to spread the word to all the other peoples of this world (or this board) about the "big brother" box installed in their vehicles.

Edited add I wonder if they're using that info in the Firestone/Exploder blow-out, roll over lawsuit?

Were any fords on that list?

Besides, if it measures five seconds before the airbag goes off it will be pretty meaningless data -- the wheels will be spinning in random directions as the exploder rolls off the side of the highway.
