I learned more about the plot of Aeon Flux reading the one paragraph description of the movie than I did watching a thousand Liquid Television episodes back in the day.

Of course, I was pretty fucking baked back then . . .

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Court: Man can sue for distress over surprise pregnancy, but sperm were hers to keep

Thursday, February 24, 2005

ASSOCIATED PRESS

CHICAGO - An appeals court said a man can press a claim for emotional distress after learning a former lover had used his sperm to have a baby. But he can't claim theft, the ruling said, because the sperm were hers to keep.

The ruling Wednesday by the Illinois Appellate Court sends Dr. Richard O. Phillips' distress case back to trial court.

Phillips accuses Dr. Sharon Irons of a "calculated, profound personal betrayal" after their affair six years ago, saying she secretly kept semen after they had oral sex, then used it to get pregnant.

He said he didn't find out about the child for nearly two years, when Irons filed a paternity lawsuit.

Yeah . . . um, wait . . . if, like, things are changing, then . . . like, how are they staying the same at the same time . . .

Whoa, dude, that totally mindfucked me.

But I was on a bicycle, so I figured I'd keep the thought to myself. And I've never gone back to George, Washington.
You know, the acronym has a certain ring to it, though.

"Uh...NAAWP."

The animation style is similar, though there were something like 30 artists involved.

It's a visually stunning movie.

Caution tape lines the Rodeo Parade route through Houston's Memorial Park, left, in a display that hearkens Christo's project, The Gates, currently installed in New York's Central Park, right. The Horses, as the Memorial piece is called, heralds the arrival today of horses and riders from around Texas.

Ours is functional and didn't cost $21M.

Quote:

But The Horses isn't a $21 million art project like The Gates. And while Christo's project has been described as "a work of pure joy, a vast populist spectacle of good will and simple eloquence," The Horses has absolutely no aesthetic value.

It serves more a more, um, practical purpose.

To keep horses — and all that comes with them — off the grass.

And out of the bushes.

And out of the bushes.

And out of the trees.
Someone at the Houston Chronicle has a sense of humor.

Someone tell me why, exactly, this guy was nominated for an Oscar. He was the worst part of Sideways. Great character, but he couldn't pull him off. A good actor would have stolen the movie from Giamatti with that role.

So, after the Knicks game last night*, I went to see Finding Neverland. Not a bad movie. But let me say this, Johnnie Depp can turn the biggest pile of cheese into something that makes sense. I guess if he can turn a theme-park ride into a hundred million dollar movie, he can make cheese watchable.

*Str8, why does anyone care about the guy from SatC -- the one who shaved his head for the ho? He was at the game and the cameras and fans were all over him. Is he doing something else with his career?

This is the main reason that I was irritated that Giamatti didn't get a nomination. It seems unfair to reward the lesser of the two actors.

I'm perplexed that the movie got so many nominations, but I didn't question his at all.

I think he looks for parts that let him redefine the movie with his acting. He likes to turn B movies into offbeat As. When was the last safe part he had? The last part that a young Paul Newman or Robert Redford would have taken.
