Great Article on F1 USGP blame game

Speaking of Bernie Ecclestone, for those of you following the fallout from the USGP Bridgestone tire test on Sunday. Max Mosley (FIA) may even be a bigger idiot than Bernie Ecclestone (F1). What was he thinking? Sure Michelin screwed up, but then you deal with it.

I'll take the wagon. 507 bhp is more than enough to make the Porsche-driving weenies in SD's neighborhood shit themselves.

The article claims it's the first M6. Wasn't there an M6 in the 80s? A version of the 6er like the one driven in Moonlighting.

Maybe they mean first "real" M6.

A little history -- Only 1600 M6's were sold in the US in 1987 & 1988. This actual car, M6 #1407, was used in some print ads for Santa Cruz Motors in the late 1980s. The longest this car has ever been outdoors was for three weeks after the 1989 Northern California earthquake. It was in the garage during the quake and narrowly missed having debris strewn on top of it. A television landed on the hood of the car parked next to it in that garage. Someone was watching over this baby!

eta, this guy was fucking scary...I consider myself one of the luckiest people in the world to have discovered this car in the Roundel magazine, BMW CCA's national publication. Immense thanks go out to the first owner, Brad, who is even more of a fanatic than myself in the way he takes care of his cars. Brad said he hardly drove this car because he "wanted to keep it perfect." Well, that he did! So much so that in the ten years that he owned it, he never shut the doors or trunk lid all the way in order to preserve the soft rubber seals. Wow!
Wonder if anyone told him that rubber degrades over time anyways.

What's not real about that one? Any more than say the first M3?

Did they "officially" import that one, or was it more like a special order item? I was probably a baby at that time (ha) and don't remember.

I've seen them every so often, or at least cars badged that way. It may be that is was like an M-sport package, using just bits added to a 6er, as opposed to ground-up M. Or something.

Frankly, I don't entirely understand the need for an M6. It's a 2 ton touring coupe with performance. Why not get an M3 if you want to drive hard. Or an M5 if you want to drive hard with extra passengers.

M6

OK, GermanCarFans says this...Although the M6 does not really have any direct predecessors, former, similar models in the history of BMW already rank as legends in their own right. Back in 1978, for example, the BMW M1 – now an expensive collect_or’s item – was the first car to show how technology from motorsport can be conveyed to the road.

Six years later it was followed by the BMW M635CSi, the first M car based on a BMW production model – and, at the same time, the car acknowledged as the founder of today’s M family quickly growing over the years through the introduction of the BMW M5 (also in 1984) and the BMW M3 (1986).

Normally the owner of a BMW M6 has other cars in his household and uses various vehicles for various purposes. The typical M6 customer is more lifestyle-oriented and extroverted than others, attaching very great signifi_cance to the design and performance of his car. But he also drives such an exclusive car to underline his social status.

The three biggest markets for the BMW M6 are the USA, Germany and Great Britain.

Particularly in the USA, the potential M6 customer will focus on sheer driving pleasure in typical BMW style as well as the special feeling of driving a truly outstanding European sports car.

The M6 customer in the USA is slightly older on average than the European buyer of an M6, but still much younger than the average BMW purchaser in general. Some purchasers – albeit not many – of the M6 in the USA are in_deed women(!!!!!!!!!) And here again, customers in this category normally have ap_proximately three cars at home in their garage.

A lot of people like a coupe. It's "sportier."

Small.

Sporty, but not beefy.

I mean a small coupe. For me, fine. For people in the passenger seat, not so much.

Even though the new 6 series is not a big inside as it looks from the outside, it's much bigger than the 3.

Dear Sebby

Florida is where you go to drive fast.

DAVIE, Fla. - Miami Dolphins safety Quintin Williams was arrested on DUI and drag racing charges Thursday after he was stopped while driving 111 mph on an interstate with teammate and passenger Travares Tillman.

After a roadside DUI test, Williams was taken to a Broward Sheriff’s Office facility where his blood-alcohol level was .087 percent, above Florida’s legal limit of .08 percent, Ferrell said.

The driver of the other car, Brandy Lynn Richards, was charged with unlawful speeding and racing on a highway because she was going 109 mph on the interstate in a 2005 Nissan Maxima, Ferrell said. Tillman, who was riding with Williams, was not charged and allowed to ride home with Richards, who was cited but not arrested, Ferrell added.

Ferrell said Richards identified herself as a Dolphins cheerleader to a supervisor on the scene of the traffic stop, but team spokesman Harvey Greene said a person by that name was not a Dolphins cheerleader.
