Kill Bill

NYTimes and Salon were in rare agreement: all style and no substance, unless your idea of a good movie is a bunch of genre-movie references flung about with no consideration for why people loved the applicable genres in the first place.

I'll probably see it, if only because "all style no substance" is not necessarily the kiss of death for me. I loved the Cell.

What I really want to see is intolerable cruelty.

Just remember, the Big L got tepid at best reviews, was in theaters maybe two weeks. Classic. Critics dont often get brilliant offbeat humor. Unless they write for Salon, sometimes.

According to a new study, owners of cars are paying about 15 percent too much for car insurance, and are subsidizing insurance for people who own SUVs. SUVs do more damage than regular cars, but we get to pay for it. Short piece re this is here; more about the study is here.

Promotions. Can supermods ignore mods? If so, why not promote Fringey to supermod status while you're figuring out what to do about the users-ignoring-mods issue? Or, if supermods don't have greater ignoring powers, why not simply make her an admin* so she can take away SD's modpowers if he acts up?

* She can also help E/O with her groupie -- er personal modding -- duties.

Here's hoping.
I was hoping someone would bring this up. This looks like an exceptional weekend for movies, with both this and Intolerable Cruelty opening. The few reviews I've seen so far for both are uniformly positive.

I'm hoping the buzz is true, but I'll probably have to wait a bit to see them. If any of the board members do see either this weekend, I'd like to know what they think.

Decisions, Decisions.

While I too love "style sans substance", I cannot for the life of me imagine what you saw in The Cell.

My favorite IT idiocy is the fact that I get 300 emails a day about how I can get a GREAT DEAL on a new or used car or the LOW LOW Rates avaialable right now on home loans, but the House of REpresentatives web page is blocked by content advisor.

Have you been skimming? I have read much worse. Who is on your ignore list?
