Observation.

The package of channels that Comcast gives me includes an HD channel of music videos. It's unique in that, unlike other channels for music videos, it plays music videos. So I've started Tivoing three-hour blocks of videos. Ninety percent is crap, but that's what the FFWD button is for. The other thing that's unique about this channel is that it mixes musical styles in the same block, and about 20% of the videos are country music. Now, I hate country music. However, FFWDing through all the country music videos I have come to notice the following:
  • Male country music stars are permitted to be substantially uglier than their counterparts in other music genres.
  • Female country music stars are universally substantially hotter than their counterparts in other music genres.
This does not make it more likely that I will listen to them, but in a three hour block of music, of the five hottest women on screen, four of them will be country recording artists.

I mostly posted this to see if Hank's translation will be funny.

The powers that be here (the A-listers) have convinced enough socks that that is negative posting, for me to make fat jokes, I don't know what the future of our board would be in terms of First Amendment rights and our ability to make jokes without fear of attacks by these socks.

That channel used to be MHD for Music: High Definition, and now it's called Palladia. I agree with your thesis about female country music star hotness. Not sure whether metal/hardcore acts would be more telegenic than male country singers.

The other thing about country videos is that they seem to be made with a lot more production values than rock videos these days. Maybe that's because MTV doesn't play videos, so only rap videos (BET) or country videos (CMT) get played. Here's a (recent?) LeeAnn Rimes video to prove my point about production values. Link This doesn't mean that I think LeeAnn Rimes is one of the hottest women in country. I am pleased that she is 26, because even though I'm not sure how that happened, it doesn't make me a pervert for noticing that she;s got nice legs.

These women are experts with makeup, hair and dressing to show off curves. Even after fumbling with makeup for an hour, we Northeastern chicks could *maybe* hope to look as glamorous as Eva Silverstein.

(Sorry Hank).
