Uh huh. You'll note that I was far from the only one who had a different take on this, and I'll also note that you took several posts down the primrose path defending that take until you decided that it was, as you put it, no longer profitable.

That said, sure, we'll move on.

Scary, huh?

You get to make the definitive position statement on any one political topic and all of the other members have to assent to and subordinate their own views on the same said position.

go for it!

I don't think the relevent question is whether or not they support the occupation.

My guess is almost all the Iraqi's don't like the occupation. Who would? But my guess is that the overwhelming majority prefer the occupation over Saddams Regime.

I also believe the overwhelming majority of Iraqis are glad Saddam was taken out, and want some sort of democracy and at least some civil rights.

I think many of the Iraqis hold the mistkan belief that things would be OK if the occupation forces moved out, but I think most of us know things would get much worse and the Iraqi's that hoped for a quick US exit would have buyers remorse.

I think the US should exit as soon as we get the Iraqis trained and have a government in place with a constitution. As W. says, I think it would be irresponsible for us to leave until that is the situation.

It was the right thing to go in and take out Saddam. The Iraqis are better off because of it. And we are morally obligated to stay in until a constitution is agreed upon, and enough troops are trained to protect that constitution.

Seems pretty simple and straightforward to me. But as people have said, I am a simpleton.
Actually, I agree with almost everything you said in that post. There is one thing I disagree with, but no matter.

I'm sorry. I thought you were saying that you were tired of this line of conversation.

If you're not, though, I'm glad to revisit the ways in which you defended, then retreated from the notion that Bush sent 200k fewer troops than his generals told him he needed because of that mean ol' Moore/Soros/Boxer/Kennedy liberal axis.

Billmoor, Let me digress with an apt anecdote, in my role as an educator of youth I recently had the chance to observe some cutting edge techniques in early elementary education. One of the things that struck me was that no matter how many times some of the slower children of the left wanted to calculate 2 + 2 as equaling 5 (or 1 or 3), the teacher circled them back to the correct summation. He explained to me that sometimes it takes months or years for these basic concepts to take hold, but caring compassionate teachers must maintain the committment, for the future of our country.

Stay the course Billmour, stay the course, there is hope for these fellows, ever feignt that hope may seem.

So where did the Bush administration screw up?

Was it in going to war?

Going to war was OK, but how the war (or occupation) was executed?

"Activist" originally meant, one willing to go beyond the words of the Constitution in order to rule on what it "ought to" have said, or what it "meant to" say, or what emotions and feelings were hidden in the penumbras and the byways of the heart of the Constitution or some such idiocy. Ty wants to redefine it as, "willing to ignore some precedent". But, when groups of Constitution-rewriting justices have wrought their harm, it's not "activism" to take it all back to the words. If you think that that argument doesn't work, then it's a simple matter if choosing a new word for it. Let's try "honest reader of the C" v. "lying sack of I-wish-I-had-a-penumbra-of-my-own."
That's a legitimate argument and a good point.

Perhaps through such redefinition, the term has come to take on a broader meaning now (I think) among the general populace to refer to results-oriented judging. BY that definition, putting up folks with the intent to reverse Roe v. Wade (for example) could be seen as "activist".

However, I think that part of the blame for this lies with some conservatives (including GOP politicians) who scream "judicial activism" every time a court overturns a a statute or government action that they like.

Anyone else hear Hannity's talkradioshow this afternoon?

The shrill shreiking harpy of ugly demo-doom, Susan Estrich, was his guest.

SEan stepped up the plate and threw a fastball at her ugly mug by straight up asking her, as a rape victim, what she thought about Juanita Brodericke's credible recitation of Clinton's rape of Juanita.

The fowl haggy said she didn't believe it because Clinton himself told her it wasn't true. Retch.

Do any of you demo's realise that he is a lying political opportunist? Maybe Billy boy should give a statement under oath that he didn't rape her. I'd pay two bucks to see that!!!

I am sincerely hoping that our friends on the left are taking the afternoon and evening off from pontificating and bloviating the same old tired liberal pablum here, in order to epiphanise themselves to a higher, more righteous ideal, i.e. the universal moral code.

I look forward to a more amicable peaceful harmonious union amongst us all.

As Rodney Luther King once said, "why can't we all get along?!?!".

To Wonk and Sidd, I offer the olive branch of partisan unity.
