Fucking TIVO and fucking Comcast

I bought the new HD-Tivo, not only because of the HD capability but because they've finally overcome the challenge of enabling you to watch one show while you record another. They do this through cable card controllers -- basically, little cards that you stick on the back of the Tivo unit, and that replace the Comcast cable box.

Unfortunately, no one fucking tells you that this destroys your ability to receive Pay-per-View channels. No, they leave this bit of info out, until one day, half-drunk and dead from exhaustion on the rebound from a spontaneous trip to Vegas, you sag into your chair in the hopes of watching the UFC fights, only to learn that you have no, no, no access to PPV.

Then you get some lady from Bangalore, who somehow is named Mitzy, to explain to you why you need a bigger box that transmits something or other in order to receive the PPV channel, and just ordering the fucking show over the phone will not be possible sir thank you very much. But aren't those cable cards a wonderful space-saver?

Argh. Argh. Argh.

Now what?

The worst moments of my early childhood were when some do-gooder relative would force me to watch that crap. Three thumbs down.
Blasphemy how could you *not* like the Muppets.

I loved the Muppets. I like[d] and sort of like Sesame Street.

One show I hate is Calliou. His little whiney voice annnoys me.

We've got a Sesame Street lift-the-flaps board book at home, currently quite popular with the 2-year old. Different concepts on different page spreads; e.g., numbers, letters, shapes, etc. One section deals with opposites; up-down, wet-dry, big-small, and such. It shows Ernie in a little play house, with the door-flap shut. The flap says "Ernie's in." Open the flap, and "Ernie's out!" Cracks me up every time.

OK. But that is a very minor exception.

I forget - what do you think of the sweater-tied-around-the-waist thing? Is that any better? Seriously, though - what are you supposed to do in the summer when it's boiling outside and freezing inside? What, Thurgreed, what?

Now what?
1) that's a well known problem with cable cards, and why cable cos. don't promote them
2) that's a well-publicized problem about the series 3 tivo
3) solutions include using the Comcast DVR and having a cable box on a different tv.

eta link to press release explaining this.

And which of those listed didn't count as 80s crap?*

*And I know you mean Rockit, not some legitimate music by Herbie Hancock.
First of all, Michael Jackson was the man and you liked his pre-Bad albums and still like the stuff he did then, now. If you say otherwise, you're full of shit.

Second of all, I am talking about Rockit, which was a precursor to rap music and drew heavily from Funk, so you can suck it hard on that one too.

I loved the Pointer Sisters (Jump and I'm So Excited to name two fun songs).

Weird Al was crap, but we knew it and laughed most of the time anyway (especially with Eat It).

We wanted to watch Quiet Riot, Pat Benatar, Men at Work and Clash videos (or, in some cases, video) too. But, let's face it, the pickings on Friday Night Videos were slim.

I don't know how old you were in the early to mid 80s, but I think it's funny that you're acting like you were some sort of music snob.

Dude, do I need to say this again? Fuck Comcast. They're fucking lying bloodsuckers. Fuck cable. You can still keep your broadband and tell them to shove their fucking cable up their asses. And go out and buy a dish. Dammit. You will be pleasantly surprised and the picture quality improvement.
