Which brings up a great reason people live in these pre-fab towns. They don't ever have to trudge to work through a foot of slushy, dirty snow.

I think you northern schlub travelers are supposed to be so focused on the lack of slushy, dirty snow and the presence of sunshine that you don't notice you are eating at an overpriced chain restaurant.

I find Phoenix surreal because I tend to think the cactuses are all fake like a movie set or something.

Wrong. Scottsdale is one of the shallowest, look-at-my-car,-my-trophy-wife-and-my-over-priced-house-on-a-golf-course I've ever been to. The good restaurants are in strip malls (as is everything else) and aside from the resorts, there is absolutely no reason to go there. Ever.

Everything looks fake. It's creepy. The weather, of course, DID make up for everything. I wouldn't expect this to be true in the long run (or the summer).

But the resorts are nice. And good, cheap (ethnic) restaurants are generally in strip malls.

I was about to say "Have you ever been to Boca Raton?" and then I saw that Scottsdale was only one of the shallowest, etc.

I feel much better now.

Agree. It's hard to mass produce a restaurant with character.
There are two Houston restaruants that franchised, sold the franchise but retained the original locations for the family to run. I've never been to a Carrabba's chain location, but I've been going to the original restaurant on Kirby for 20 years and it's always been good. The Ninfa's chain did a slightly better job at mass production, but I'd rather just go down to the original barrio location on Navigation than any of the restaurants in safer parts of town.

In the summer you should probably hang out in Albany with NB and ncs, or at the LA airport with Ironweed.

Your Lesbian Gossip Of The Day

I know everyone has already read Page 6 today, but because NFH is not around to post this, I thought you'd all like to know:

Quote:

THE dumped ex-girlfriends of Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi commiserated with each other at the Barry Diller pre-Oscar luncheon. Alexandra Hedison, who was axed by Ellen, and Francesca Gregorini, who got the boot from Portia, bonded with each other over the shabby treatments meted out by their more famous ex-lovers. The two spent most of the afternoon together consoling one another. The only time Gregorini left Hedison's side was to cozy up to her new love interest, "Boys Don't Cry" director Kimberly Pierce. Gregorini and Pierce went gaga over the baby that actress Sara Gilbert now has with her girlfriend, Ali Adler.
I didn't know that Sara Gilbert was out.

But she had the one-balled hottie . . . oh wait, he dumped her for Christina Ricci, who dumped him for her brother's boyfriend.

I thought the sarcasm was detectable in my defining what is cool as the front lawns with cactii?

Fine. Make fun of typos and flipper arms. I can't help it my mother took Thalidomide, bitch.

Aha!! Neither did I, but my now gay ex-boyfriend predicted her lesbianism back in 1990. Well done, Jason.

He also predicted that any marriage I got into would not last and that one day I would be off men completely. I guess he's one for two so far.
